Hello everyone. I've been a long time user of MythTV but in the past year I've run in to problems. I used to use a PVR-250 and PVR-150 and they worked great under linux. I've upgraded to get OTA HD so bought a HVR-1600. Just this week I decided that I needed more recording capabilities so I got a HVR-1250. Problem is with the 1250 in the same machine (I only have one) the analog portion of the 1600 quits working (won't record sound).

So I'm thinking of dropping Linux. I came across this app for windows from schedules direct. Before I completely blow away my mythtv I would like to know if switching will solve my problem. Does any one here run these two cards together? What about a 1600 and a hvr-950q? Basically I need an analog for only a couple of cable channels that some shows are on and the rest of what I record is OTA. Some nights I will have all three (1 analog and 2 digitals) recording all at the same time.

Thanks for you help. It looks like a really nice program.

I would expect these two tuners to happily co-habitate. Others will no doubt chime-in with first hand experience (I don't have any). In general, you can't go wrong with Hauppauge tuners with NPVR. OTH, I have an Avermedia dual digital tuner along with an ATI analog/digital and they work fine together. You will need to install WinTV 7 to get the analog tuner working in NPVR. Check the getting started post on the NPVR support forum.

As important as the tuners in NPVR is the program guide source, since NPVR is guide-centric. I think Schedules Direct works for Canada and at $25/year it's worthwhile for me. There are alternatives, however.

Thanks for the info. I suspect that these two cards will work in Windows much better then in Linux. Not that I don't love my MythTV box but you get tired of chasing down drivers.

I already have a Schedules direct account for Myth so I'll use the same thing for NPVR. I've got a spare small HD here that I was going to install Win7 on and try NPVR for the weekend.

I'll post another thread for my second question.

I'd definitely recommend Win7 - all you need is the Microsoft video decoder that comes with it, and possibly AC3filter for AC3 audio, and you should be good. I would recommend no other decoders until you get things going. Then you can experiment.

WinTV will install its own decoders, they are probably OK, but I'm really satisfied with MS and AC3 filter. Note that I don't use SPDIF or 5.1 audio however, only stereo.

There should be no problem recording 3 programs at a time. You must have better TV in the Great White North than here in the USA, to have 3 programs at once!

Ha! I don't think we get better tv. It's just on different channels all at the same time! Monday's are the worst night. Any way thanks for the help. I'm going to see if I can get Win7 Home premium installed tonight on a second HD.
