I installed a second hard drive in my PC that will be more or less dedicated to video storage.

How should I go about moving my currently recorded shows from my old drive to the new one?

I have done this several times as I upgraded parts of the system.

1) Run "Export Recordings" under Settings which produces a recordings and recurring backup xml files. Make a note of how many recordings were exported.

2) Connect new hard disk and copy the recordings to new disk

3) Make a backup copy then Edit recording-backup.xml and edit every occurrence of the <filename> so it points to the new location.

I use “Replace” in Notepad to do this. In my case I set Find to “C:\recordings” and Replace set to “D:”. Just replace one at a time to see if it works ok before you “Replace All”. The usual problem is you end up with missing or too many “\”.

4) What I do next is rename the old recordings directory as a fall back. So if the update goes wrong you can “Import” the backup copy of the recording-backup.xml and you are back in the original condition and nothing is lost.

5) Import the edited recording-backup.xml and make sure the same number exported are imported.

6) Edit “Recording Directory” so new recordings are made to the new disk.

If you are not happy doing the above the easy way is just do step (6). This means old recordings are still available in the original location but new recordings go to the new disk.
