I reinstalled but still no devices listed. Strange. When I first got the HP Expresscard card I opened my video program Cyberlink Power Director and it immediately found the card and was able to capture from it. I then installed Sagetv and it also found the card right away. I didn't need to go into these settings like I am trying in NPVR which far exceed my level of technical expertise. Couldn't someone recommend a more consumer friendly software to set up recordings?

More common card (like Hauppauge cards) are already configured in the default install, so most users dont have do any of this stuff like running filtercheck and adding things to xml files etc. It's only because you've got some no-name card that these steps are required. If you get it working though, i'll add it's setting to the default files so that further owners of the same device dont have to do this.

If you start NextPVR and visit the Settings -> Devices screen, then zip and attach the npvr.log, I'll check why it isnt seeing the device.

I visited the Settings -> Devices screen, I then looked in the Nextpvr folder but saw no npvr.log. I than ran filtercheck and am hopefully sending the details from it. Thanks

npvr.log is in the logs directory.

Windows Vista & Windows 7: C:\users\public\npvr\logs
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\logs

This doesn't look good

2011-11-24 23:16:31.756 [DEBUG][1] FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (HCW) MPEG Multiplexer-Plus
2011-11-24 23:16:31.756 [DEBUG][1] MainConcept mux not present. Disabling analog support.

Having to install the SottPVR components does make NPVR more awkward to use than other programs but you mentioned two commercial products that can afford to license them.

The MainConcept mux isnt on your machine, so it doesnt bother looking for analog devices. See the sticky thread for info on installing the SoftPVR components (which installs the MainConcept mux).

Yep, I'd have to agree, but unfortunately there is no easy way around this. Thankfully it's only for analog, and there is very few people looking to setup analog these days.

Could you just outline the steps or provide a link? Also I don't follow what is meant by: "but you mentioned two commercial products that can afford to license them". Which two commercial products?

It wasnt me that posted that. I think mvallevand's point was that commerical products (like two you mention, Cyberlink Power Director and SageTV) are in a position to license and include any components (decoders etc) they need to make the setup as smooth as possible for their users. Since NextPVR is free software, I cant pay licenses for this type of thing, so in some setups (like Analog) it needs users to install some components themselves.

The reality is I was only interested in providing analog support for Hauppauge devices, so it was a simple matter of just telling Hauppauge device owners that analog support would only be available if they installed the WinTV software for their device. It got more complicated when owners of other devices started trying to get analog work on their devices.
