Hello:

I did try to find the answer myself here on the forums, but have given up for the time being.

For the last two years, I successfully ran GBPVR with two wired MVP clients using the MVPMC dongle. I recently dedicated a separate Windows XP machine as a PVR and successfully installed NextPVR with a Hauppauge 1600 tuner card.

I have two issues:

1) The MVPs cannot find the NextPVR server (they can still see the old GBPVR server).

2) I cannot find where I configure NextPVR with the MVPMC dongle. In GBPVR I copied the file into the GBPVR directory and chose it from the dropdown box in the config program.

FYI, as a last resort, I tried installing GBPVR on the new box, but received several error messages during the installation, if that is any clue. The box meets all of the requirements (.net, directx, etc.).

Thank you in advance for any assistance with these problems.

Update: I feel foolish - it was the firewall on the server. However, the recorded programs are unwatchable on the clients. Back to the forum search!

In what format do you record?
I think the MVPConfused only support SD mpeg2 and not ts or HD files.

Thank you very much for the replies. ForzaKBG, you are right - I was trying to play a .ts file. By default (I believe) my previous GBPVR installation created .mpg files - I don't remember having a choice. Is this a change that is made in the Hauppauge WinTV software? By the way, NextPVR and the MediaMVPs are now working just fine with .mpg files.

Martin, how do I update the dongle file?

I will try to find these answers myself in the meantime - I just wanted to acknowledge the help I received.

Use 7zip to extract the dongle and then rename it to dongle.bin and put it in the NPVR Date Directory\Dongle folder overwriting the original. You will also to need to edit config.xml with the preferences for resolution, the same MAC- block you have in GBPVR is fine.

Thank you again, Martin. I will give it a try. Another question, if you don't mind. From my research here in the forum, it seems that there are no new-production media extenders on the market and one has to find a used one to work with NPVR. So, how are people without NMTs viewing their recordings - directly from a computer that is adjacent to/connected to a television?

IMO, some are buying used extenders, some are building HTPC's, since new CPUs from AMD and Intel are increasing media friendly, some are buying all models of different extenders that don't have the NextPVR UI, some are leaving for Windows Media Centre, some are leaving for cable and satellite DVR's which are becoming increasingly multi-room cable, and some are leaving PVR's altogether and downloading legal and illegal for use with PCs or extenders mentioned above.

I do hope for other another platform for a new extender for NextPVR one day.

Martin:

I just updated dongle.bin and guess what? The MediaMVPs are playing the .ts files now! All is well again, and thank you very much.

I too am making the switch from GBPVR with an MVP to NextPVR and hoping to use my MVP. I downloaded the dongle...7z file that was referenced in post #4, unzipped, renamed, and replaced my old dongle.bin file with it. I booted up my MVP and it showed four red lights and then four green lights and seemed to hang. I left and came back about 5 minutes later and it was loaded. I chose Emulation Mode and the NextPVR screen popped up. So then I tried to play back a recording and I got no video and stuttering audio. My recording was made with a QAM tuner on a HD station. It is a 4GB+ file that has a .ts ending. It's 1280X720 with a bitrate of 24000+kbps. Does any of that help me try and figure out why I can't get the file to playback?
