Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of getting a MediaMVP and was wondering the following

o What do people think of this device?
o As far as i can see, it can output both Pal and Ntsc. Is this correct?
o What is the power supply for it. Will be buying in the US and taking by to Ireland next year.
o Anything else anyone wants to add?

Cheers,
Colin.

I'm using a US model here in New Zealand. It plays back PAL and cam with a 100-240v PSU, so you'll only need a adapter plug. I think they pretty amazing for price.

Ah, if only more companies would start using a sliding PSU [Image: smile.gif] I have seen them here for about $85 (includes shipping) so I'm pretty tempted by it.

Totally agree with sub. Along with GBPVR has made my VCR redundant. No pc noise, no fuss - all the features of an HTPC.

Now I have 2 mvps. One in the living room one in the bedroom. Can start a recording in one place and pick it up in the other.

Picture quality is pretty good too (if a little overdriven, but I guess i could use ffdshow to work on that if I cared enough).

Great value even at GBP99 so at $85 - a steal! (but make sure you give a good run before leaving the US, my first one cooked itself within a week and had to be replaced)

Hey All,

I got one of these boxes and am having problems getting it connected. It keeps cycling through "Contacting DHCP ..." "Contacting Bootserver ..."

The box goes through a Linksys router (operating in gateway mode), and my computer is running Symantic Firewall (though this does not seem to be complaining of anything).

Any suggestions? I am not too hot on windows networking, etc.

Cheers,
Colin.

Does it work with the Hauppauge software for you, or are you just trying it with GB-PVR? To you use it with GB-PVR you must still perform the initial boot against the Hauppauge software.

Your error indicates the MVP is trying to get an IP address from a DHCP server. After it gets an address, it downloads the linux image (dongle.bin using TFTP) from the Hauppauge software.

In my environment, I have a router that acts as a DHCP server which allocates an IP address for the MVP. I'm not quite sure what happens if you're not running a DHCP server somewhere on you network. The Hauppauge software running on you PC may be able to also act as a DHCP server.
