Will you switch to Windows 8?

I installed this to try it out and also can't see myself using the Metro stuff unless in a "touch" scenario. Also, I made a new partition on a Windows 7 PC and the install went fine but when I rebooted back into Win 7 after trying out the preview, it ran checkdisk to fix "errors" so I'm hesitant to reboot into Win 8 to try it again...

I have a few 'rack' drives so I can move hard drives of different OS's around. I normally disconnect the internal drives and just leave 1 drive in the rack and install beta OS's there so there is no dual booting. I just use the F8 key to select which drive to boot to and there are no problems.

We got the pre-release ISO at work a couple days ago. I'm going to gather some hardware together so I can check it out, but until Metro or the background technology is forced on server OS's I work with, I don't know that I'm going to spend a whole lot of time on it. Everyone whose computers I support likes Windows 7.

I still run Vista on my main machine and when I run Win7 on the client I really don't see any major difference and I run a 2GB Vista and 4 on Win7 Personally I think it was more a resistance to change issue with XP users and Microsoft decided to change names for marketing reasons. XP even through SP1 was not that good and even at SP3 it is inferior to Vista, in all areas except memory requirements.

Just installed it Thursday night but only felt like playing with it for 20 minutes. First impressions, it's not awful, but I just don't like it. I installed Virtual Box on another computer and gave that a shot just for sh*ts and giggles and it ran faster than I had thought.
Once you get to the W7 type desktop, it gets a bit better. Didn't try NPVR on yet but Media Center did work and looks identical to W7. Seemed to pick up all my drivers.

Not a fan of the metro UI. I downloaded the preview and put it on virtual box. And I really hated the missing start button. Very disappointed... wondering how businesses will do with this version. Seems like it may get skipped by quite a few. Why is everyone trying to make the desktop experience more like the phone? different devices please give me different experiences.

I attempted to install NPVR on Virtual Box but it didn't work. I do have W8 installed on a separate hard drive and plan on trying NPVR there when I have time........however, time is not my friend and I am not happy with spending time on W8.

I use windows 8 RTM (only because I happened to be a TechNet subscriber), and after a month or so my advice would be - seriously, don't bother, unless you also have a touch screen or want a windows phone and/or windows tablet and a relatively seamless user experience between these platforms.

I very quickly found myself using the 3rd party 'Classic Shell' utility to more or less successfully restore full functionality - but out of the box it represents a substantial ergonomic downgrade to anyone who's needs, interests and general competence extend to more complex tasks than email, browsing or social networking.

I think I'll skip W8 as well and rather have a look at W9 (or whatever they call it). I'v had a brief look at W8 and, as many others, found it clumsy to navigate. W7 is working very well for me, what I really can't understand is how anyone can claim that there are more bugs in W7 that in Vista? Vista must be a recordholder in bugs, BSOD's and crashes.

I used Vista for years and it is still serving me well as my dev. machine for my headless NextPVR server. I have no regrets and I am 100% sure I have more BSOD's on my newer Win7 machines.
