I have the aspect ratio option set to remember last mode. I also have a couple of custom ratios; let's just call them 0 (auto), 1 and 2. Fill has been disabled.

When playing Live TV or recordings (of .ts files) then everything works as expected. I want '1' as the ratio and it sticks.

When playing any other type of video file (eg DVDs, mpegs from gbpvr, mkv, etc), then NPVR doesn't start the video using the last mode. If I had '1' active in Live TV, and then start a DVD, then the ratio now looks like '0' (auto). Note though, that a single press of F7 changes the ratio to '2', as if NPVR thought it *was* still using '1' but didn't actually activate it.

In all cases, the logs always show "restoring last aspect ratio" before the graph is built, but only Live TV ever shows stuff like:

Code:
2012-04-12 06:45:23.780    [DEBUG][1]    Aspect ratio now: 16x9
2012-04-12 06:45:23.780    [DEBUG][1]    Resolution is now: 720x576

For reference, here are my aspect ratio settings:

Code:
<!--<AspectRatioMode name="Fill">0,0,1,1</AspectRatioMode>-->
<AspectRatioMode name="Overscan">-0.03,-0.03,1.03,1.03</AspectRatioMode>
<AspectRatioMode name="Aspect Zoom">-0.12,-0.12,1.12,1.12</AspectRatioMode>

The problem still occurs if Fill isn't disabled. TV shape is set to 16:9, but I've seen the same thing on my laptop at 16:10.

There's also a secondary problem related to this, in that with any video (including Live TV and recordings) if you activate the video inset then the aspect ratio always falls back to auto, and again NPVR continues to think it's still in one of the other modes. I don't mind it using auto if that's the best way to make everything fit in the cut-out rectangle, but it would be nice if it could restore the actual ratio that was being used once you go full screen again.

Let me know if you need any other info...

Cheers

Are we talking about the same problem though hoborg?

My issue is basically that NPVR never starts playback using the *same* display mode that the previously watched video/live tv/recording/whatever was using. The modes themselves - even the "wrong" one that it starts on - have the correct ratio though.

I get it happening with every type of non .ts file, dvds included.

I have this problem only on DVDs, AR is always "full screen". I need to cycle AR to get correct 4/3 AR. TV (or .TS) are always OK, it is switching between 4/3 and 16/9 automatically, no problem here.

Ah, right... I wasn't testing 4:3 content, but yes, I do also see that problem.

It's still a (slightly) different issue, but perhaps related. In summary, it seems as if NPVR:

a) always starts non .ts videos in its auto mode, regardless of the the mode that was previously in use (my problem)
b) doesn't correctly apply that auto mode (to 4:3 content) until you've F7 cycled back around to it (hoborg's problem)

Give this a go. Hopefully it'll fix it.

I've only given it the briefest of tests, but it looks spot-on perfect to me so far! Thanks sub Smile

I'll keep an eye on it over the next day or so and report back after doing some more in-depth testing.

Well, after more testing I'd say you've cracked it sub. Both a) and b) problems mentioned earlier are now completely gone for me.

There was a small issue in that every DVD I tried had a small green bar running along the bottom of the screen until the aspects were cycled through again, but that disappeared with a codec change (from an old Cyberlink one to the MS one). I was only using it because I knew it worked with DVD subtitles and (at the time) I had a reason to avoid the MS one.

The following is still happening, but it's not such a big deal. Maybe it's an easy fix now that you've solved the other ones:

Thanks again sub,

Unfortunately I dont think I have any 4:3 DVDs, so no easy way to test it. Post the logs though and I'll see if anything stands out.
