Hello, I have NPVR set up on a Win7 testbed and it works fine. But I really want to run it on my main server which is WHSv1, so I installed it yesterday and went through the configuration. Device config seemed to go okay with the HDHR Prime, and I configured it to use what appears to be the proper tuner selection since each of the Prime's tuners are listed 3 times.

But, I get nothing when I watch live TV, and recordings act like they are missing lots of packets. I was able to see enough to tell that it was the right channel. It looks like what you get with poor signal quality, but I know that's not it.

With the Silicondust QuickTV program I can watch all the channels just fine. Also, I've been using my HDHR Prime with the Win7 setup so I know the cable connection is good. I've turned off Windows Firewall so that's not it.

The other piece of the puzzle is that I already run Beyond TV on this same computer. I really only intend to use NPVR to do recordings for now, and use BTV to watch everything with. BTV uses my two other HDHomeRun's, and interestingly enough they both acted up tonight but not immediately. NPVR was idle, and one HDHR quit responding. When I cycled the power, the other HDHR quit responding. So there may be some funky interaction going on among the HDHR units, but last night BTV worked just fine.

I don't see any errors in the log file, it just looks like things went normally.

Any suggestions?

Usual reason for these types of problems on the HDHR devices is firewall software not allowing the devices to send data to nrecord.exe or ndigitalhost.exe.

Could it be caused by Windows "Server" versions sometimes have multimedia functions missing or at least not installed by default?

No, but if you post the logs I'll see if anything else stands out.

I deleted the old logs and started with a clean slate to make the log files short. When I watched the recording it looked like a scrambled channel, very smeary, but you could make out some shapes.

Also, I used the hdhomerun_configure program and manually recorded a show to a file, and that recording plays perfectly. I know that WHS is lacking some files necessary for media playback, but I've been running BeyondTV on this system for a year and I think I have everything installed that is needed.

Maybe it's something with the rtp:// input that NPVR is using to capture the file?

Can you make a very short recording and put it somewhere I can download from?

You could also create a c:\temp directory, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NPVR\LogNetPush=1 (DWORD), then do a short recording and post the nrecord.log and c:\temp\netpush.txt. This should help me tell if it's receiving data, and if any packets are missing.

Will do. Playing around with VLC, I have discovered that if I tell the HDHR to send to a network address as you do with the rtp:// address, it doesn't work on that machine. Nor does trying udp://... . But it works fine on another machine, and if I tell the HDHR Setup program to use VLC to preview channels in the lineup, that works with a udp:// call. This is really weird.

Here is the netpush file. Looks like it's dropping a ton of packets for some reason.
