OSD with Overlay -- Not working at all

I have done some searching in the forums and the OSD should work in Overlay Renderer mode (although I understand that transparency may not function) -- the problem I am having is that in Overlay mode I do not get any OSD at all. I need to use Overlay in my particular situation as it works best with my graphics configuration (WinXP SP3 with a fairly old Nvidia Graphics card). I have reproduced this problem on four different PC clients -- so something is not right.

I have tried at least six different Video decoders -- all with the same effect -- no OSD with overlay so I am assuming that this is not an issue with decoders. Is there something simple that I am missing?

Post the logs and I'll see if anything stands out.

I have also seen this with an older Nvidia card, but I assumed it was because those cards have a very limited graphic memory.

As requested -- logs are attached. The sequence used to create these was:

1. EVR renderer -- OSD working
2. VMR9 Custom renderer -- OSD working
3. Overlay renderer -- NO OSD

As indicated in my first post I have repeated these tests with at least five different video decoders -- at with the same effect -- NO OSD in Overlay mode.

Overlay works perfectly in all my other media players -- most noticeably with Zoomplayer and Sage TV

Do you have ovtool.dll in your c:\program files\npvr directory?

No it is not -- the file is not anywhere on my disk. Should this normally be part of the NPVR install -- or do I have to download it from somewhere?

Try the attached. You'll need to save it to that directory, then register it (with regsvr32 c:\path\to\ovtool.dll).

I thought so, but maybe I forgot to add it to the installer. No body uses overlay, so nobody has ever mentioned it being missing.

In my area, anyway, suitable video cards can be found on sale for $20-$30 (8400gs, Nvidia 210, HD4350). This would be a really cost-effective upgrade.

But I'm guessing your interface is the problem (PCI or AGP).

You can still get cheap AGP cards which do the job
(I use EVR with 1080i h264 decoding on my ATI HD2600 AGP card, although this is on Win7)

That worked great -- thank you. I tried a fresh install on a test system and this file is not part of the install package for NPVR.
