Yeah sorry. I realise it's hassle for the way you're trying to use it. For the majority of users though, that was their original intended usage - they wanted a pvr, with tv listings, and to have it automatically schedule recordings for them based on those listings etc, which is exactly what NextPVR is trying to do. It's not really the sort of app that just shows you what is currently coming in through the analog inputs, and a simple record button. Usually the software that came with the capture devices is better suited to this type of task.

Try this patch. It might do what you want.

If no show listings are available when you press the record button on your remote (or Ctrl-K on the keyboard), it'll show the manual recording pop up, which lets you specify how long to record etc.

Yes I really do appreciate the patch and support. Although MCE already has this feature (running to hide now.... Smile )

Close.... When I pressed ok it told me no tuner was available... then live TV would not work any more. So I rebooted. Now its recording something. Then it stopped recording (file size stopped increasing) but status says its still recording and I cant find a way to stop it or convince it that its stopped...

I think we are getting close though Smile

Admittedly with a single analog tuner, it will drop you out of live tv, with a message saying the tuner is no longer available, but it should give you the option to 'watch: xxxxx' (your recording) or return to the menu. If you hit enter, it should start playing your recording.

With a digital device, live tv would have continued.

Here is a screen shot of what you should see with a single analog tuner.

Problem is now it thinks its still recording, although its not.... so I cant do live or record Smile

How do I get it to "stop" thinking that its recording? Its showing in status as current recording but the time has long since elapsed and the file is not growing (even after reboot)

The menu I got BTW was similar but not the same to that.. once I can convince it that its not recording so I can get live TV again Ill screenshot the menu.
