Hmm.. it IS recording.. but to a diff location...I was mistakenly looking in the buffer dir. How can I stop recording?

I looked for log files but dont see any.

it will show in the recording screen you can stop it from there
have a look in setting as to where you have the recordings directory set to (different than buffer)

As Stustunz mentioned, you can cancel it from the Recordings screen.

On Vista or higher the logs are in c:\users\public\npvr\logs.

I cant seem to get to the recording screen. Ctrl-K doesnt take me there as I cant get to live TV because it thinks its recording. Right click doesnt show a recording option... Am I missing something obvious? I only see status in settings, or from the icon in the sys tray.

Go back to main menu and selecting recordings (or hit F8)
once in recordings you have new options pending, whats new ,ready recordings its should show up in the last 2

I dont have a main menu. Settings is set to go to main menu on start but I just get a black screen. I only have a menu with right click. In fact I never saw a main menu ever... I just assumed this is how it was?

F8 on that screen doesnt do anything.
