I'm using NPVR 2.5.9

I'm trying to use episode search to auto record some shows based on title or description content, but I cannot get it to work. Clicking on the show in tv-guide to record work, but I want it to do it automatic based on rules I set. I gather this is what episode search is for.

this is what I put in episode search : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35064639/ep-search.png
to get it to record the show you see in tv guilde here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35064639/guide.png

But when I hit submit on the episode search it doesn't find anything. I've tried to extent timeslots both before and after to no help.

Looking at what I think you are trying to do....I don't think you are going about it correctly....

You should click on the event in the guide to open up the details page (it is a pop-up so make sure you allow pop-ups)
Then select this time, any day and if you only want 1st run shows check that box.....then click record. This will create the episode recording that will continually record the event that appears in that timeslot on any day of the week.

Thanks for suggestion and feedback ! I know about this approach but this is actually not what I'm trying to do.

What I'm trying is to set rules/criteria for recording and if it finds anything in the guide with those set criteria are met it should automatically record it.

ex. I want to create a rule:

on any day, on channels 1,2,3,6,8 and 10 between 1700 and 2300, if you find a show with "fotball" in the description, record it.

I assume this is what the episode search feature is for ?

actually after some more testing I found that it's the "time range" setting that makes it fail. Is the feature broken ?

Have a play with Saved Searches/Autorecord. Add and save a search for Description Contains 'fotball' by filling the search criteria fields and ticking the appropriate check boxes/radio buttons.

The first time you start NEWA on any given day, it will search your EPG and schedule recordings for anything it finds. There is also a CLI program on the wiki which you can run using Windows Scheduled Tasks to do the autorecord without having to open NEWA.

I do most (95%) of my recordings using this sort of 'rule'...

Creating and running NEWA saved searches and auto-record searches is also available in Searchlite, but it's a multi-step process/ I am planning on porting the functionality to X-NEWA to so it can run in XBMC. If you are interested I will post the steps.

What shows in the web.log file after executing the search?

I'm just looking for a way to set up my rule based schedules, how it's done I don't care, open for any suggestion. When that special word pops up in the tv-guide, I want it to automatic create a recording of that show. Heading over to wiki to see if I find more suggestions.

Did you look at NEWA Auto Search/Record and NEWA Auto-Search Command Line Interface (CLI) ?

Unless I have completely missunderstood your question, this will do what you want...

I might be getting picky, but from the searche's screenshot, the EPG doesn't really align with 20:00? Visual misalignment, or does the programme start earlier than 20:00, hence failing to comply with the search?

Hi ACTCMS,

I have not looked at the CLI yet, but is fighting with NEWA auto search/record Smile

Problem is, it's not returning any results on my searches, even if it should.

To keep it really basic I try the following:

- all I type in is keyword to search for and what channel to use. I hit submit and it presents me with 2 results.
1. this saturday at 1800-1855
2. this saturday at 1900-2000

THIS IS CORRECT, and all it should find based on the EPG data.

Then I up the ante and add another setting, I add on time range start time 1800, now it only finds
1. this saturday at 1800-1855

Then I add both start 1800 and end time 20.00 and it finds:
1. this saturday 1900-2000

I can actually set any endtime after 20.00 and it will give me that result, however if I set anything before 20.00 it will result in blank.

If I set start 1600 end 2200 all it picks up is the 1900-2000 show, only way I can get it to find the 1800-1855 show is to set only start time (1800) and no endtime. Or simply no time at all.
