Hi

Apologies if this should be tagged onto the other ongoing thread on this subject - I didn't know whether it was good etiquette to hijack someone else's issue or not.

I'm getting quite regular freezes, nearly always during adverts.
Sometimes just the picture freezes and the audio continues, in which case skipping back or Escape may get things working again.
Other times the video and the audio freeze and the PC locks up completely, not responding ctrl+alt+del and has to be hard reset.

I attach the logs of an incidence of the former case. The freeze happened within minutes of the log being captured, the log was captured while nPVR was still running with the video frozen and audio still running. The buffer file was still growing.

I have tried quite a number of audio and video decoders before posting but the symptoms have persisted.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

Chris

You might need to try capture the most recent buffer file when this happens, and try playing it like a regular file to see it freezes in the same place. If it does, I'll get you to put it somewhere I can download from and I'll check it out here.

Here's how the freeze happens in my case:

1. Client freezes on channel change, throws unhandled exception (divide by zero)
2. On server, recording service continues to record
3. On server, buffer file continues to grow, and plays back without a hitch.

The server apparently thinks everything is hunky-dory.... Big Grin

He doesn't mention client/server anywhere, and because he mentioned it's almost always happens during the ads, I suspect it's different to your issue. I'm guessing it's related to pid switching, like local ad insertion.

ga_mueller, I experience a similar issue to what you describe. I've started to rely on VLC to watch TV on my other PCs, but it's no where near as good as the true NextPVR experience.

(Also, VLC has a terrible GUI.)

We have a thread about these going on over here:

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...on-Clients

KR1S are you using set top boxes with your cable provider? If so, I had some issues just like yours with my Time Warner boxes. They were still running ads in non-HD, switching from 1080 to 720 to 480 and back around again. I went into the menu on my Time Warner boxes long ago and set them to output in 1080 only and never had the issue again.

Just guessing, maybe that might help?

Hi

I'm not sure I fully understand the question about my cable provider but that's possibly because I wasn't clear about my system.

I'm running Windows XP SP3 (+ hotfix for NovaT 500) on a Duron 1.3GHz with 1G RAM, a Hauppauge Nova-T 500 and an ATI Radeon 7200 Graphics card.
I'm not using a cable provider (at least not as a source for nPVR) and I'm not using HD.

I will try to do as sub says and grab the temporary .ts file and see whether it will play in another app.
Not sure yet how to get it because I guess I can't access it while nPVR still has hold of it, but if I close nPVR it deletes it?
I'll work it out - might be a day or two before I have chance to catch the next freeze event now though.

Thanks!!

I'm mainly interested in whether it'll playback in NextPVR, but try it in another app too.

You should be able to copy and past the file(s) even while it's still recording. When you close NextPVR it will delete them, so do it before you close the app.

Am I correct in assuming that if you kill Nrecord from task manager it does not delete the file?

If you'd do that, you'd need to kill both nextpvr.exe and nrecord.exe, because either can delete the files.
