Hello sub,

I have a problem starting DVDs with the wrong aspect ratio: Every DVD I start begins with aspect ratio 4/3. When I set the AR (from Auto) to Auto in the right-mouse-button-context-menu, the display changes to the correct size. It seems that NextPVR knows the correct AR but doesn't set it at the start of the DVD. I think, the same problem was already mentioned at the end of the thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...pect+ratio

My settings for TV Shape is 16/9, my default Mode for Aspect Ratio is Auto, because I have DVDs with AR = 4/3 and 16/9.

I attach a logfile where you can see, that the DVD starts in 4/3 and when I set the AR to Auto in context-menu, the AR changes to 16/9.

Do you have a 4:3 or 16:9/10 screen? Is your screen aspect set correctly in Settings->General TV-Shape?

My screen is a 16:9-TV over HDMI, my TV Shape-setting is 16:9. Videos and Recordings are all shown as expected, 16:9-Programs in full screen, 4:3-Programs with black bars left and right. The problems only occurs when watching DVD's or DVD-Iso-Images over VirtualCloneDrive.

Hello sub,

have you had a chance to look at this? It happens only when watching DVDs (videos are always ok) and when the Aspect Ratio-Default Mode is set to Auto (because of having DVDs and Videos in 4:3 and 16:9). Under these conditions the DVD starts with aspect ratio 4:3 regardless of the specification of the DVD.

Here’s the extract of the logfile of watching a 16:9-DVD (the complete logfile is attached in the first post):

Code:
2012-12-26 11:25:46.766               [DEBUG][1]        PlayDVD
2012-12-26 11:25:46.766               [DEBUG][1]        AudioAdjust: EVENT: BUILDING_GRAPH - F:\VIDEO_TS

2012-12-26 11:25:48.066               [DEBUG][1]        Setting display rect: 0.125000,0.000000,0.875000,1.000000
2012-12-26 11:25:48.068               [DEBUG][1]        Graph filter list:
2012-12-26 11:25:48.069               [DEBUG][1]        - Default DirectSound Device
2012-12-26 11:25:48.069               [DEBUG][1]        - EVR Renderer
2012-12-26 11:25:48.069               [DEBUG][1]        - LAV Audio Decoder
2012-12-26 11:25:48.069               [DEBUG][1]        - CyberLink Video/SP Decoder
2012-12-26 11:25:48.069               [DEBUG][1]        - DVD Navigator
2012-12-26 11:25:51.111               [DEBUG][1]        Checking for DVD bookmark: ID 16304945264252889612

Now, while playing this DVD, by pressing ALT-ENTER for example, the aspect ratio changes to 16:9. The same change happens when I step through the aspect-ratios with F7 and stop at Auto or when I use the mouse-context-menu to change directly to Auto (even though it is already Auto). Here’s the Logfile of such a change:

Code:
2012-12-26 11:26:09.713               [DEBUG][1]        GetEventCode() returned: 0x010b
2012-12-26 11:26:09.763               [DEBUG][1]        Source Aspect Ratio: 16x9
2012-12-26 11:26:09.763               [DEBUG][1]        Setting display rect: 0.000000,0.000000,1.000000,1.000000
2012-12-26 11:26:09.837               [DEBUG][1]        Updating OSD.
2012-12-26 11:26:10.231               [DEBUG][1]        GetEventCode() returned: 0x010b

For me it looks like something goes wrong in the first determination of the Source Aspect Ratio of a DVD.

Sorry, no I haven't looked at this. If you bump the thread in a few days, I'll check it out. I'm away for a few days.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen this thread, but it was from April 2012 and so I thought, this patched dll was for NextPvr-Version 2.4.3. I'm not sure, which side effects will occur, when I mix this two versions together. But ok, I will give it a try.

No - don't install that. You shouldn't install an old patch.

Sorry for the lack of response so far - I don't often play DVDs, and just discovered that my newly rebuilt Windows 8 development machine doesn't play any DVDs. I think it's related stuff Microsoft DVD stuff that has removed or disabled in Win8. Not really sure what to do about it. It doesn't make it easy to test anything DVD related...
