Ok here is the situation.

I have an HD PVR 2 that works fine via HDMI. If I go into the guide and select a show to record via quick record, the show does not record (no recording file is produced), even though I can see the HD PVR 2 record indicator turn green (i.e., it's recording).

HOWEVER, if I go into the guide and select a show to 'watch', let the show appear on the screen, then go back into the guide (F1) while the Live TV stream is playing and select 'quick record' the show records (a recording file is produced).

I've attached a log for just this scenario. The only thing I noticed in the log that could be related is this for the non-recording scenario:

Quote:2012-12-29 20:31:40.346 [DEBUG][7] Invalid file passed to StartParallelProcessing(): 'D:\Recordings\Regular Show\Regular Show_20121229_20302045.ts'

This both does AND does not make any sense: Yes, the file is invalid because IT DOES NOT YET EXIST as the device has not yet started recording!. This is not the case in the live TV scenario as the buffer file is 'the recording' and does exist. Maybe this is an indication of where the problem lies.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hello Martin.

Yes it exists. It is also the directory I've set as default in settings for recordings. When initiating a recording from live TV, the recordings show up there.

I tried testing with the "Wait longer before recording capture" box ticked in devices setup to see if that made any difference but no joy.

Regards.

If the recording directory exists, then my next guess would be something to do with the permissions on the directory.

Hello Sub.

I'll check the permissions ASAP. Still, if the permissions WERE restricted, wouldn't it prevent the recordings from Live TV as well?

Regards.

OK.

I checked the directory permissions and they are 'Full Control' (read, write, delete). Is that acceptable?

Remember, NPVR reliably creates recordings when I initiate a recording while watching LiveTV so I'm convinced that whatever is different from the Live TV method and the 'Guide' method is where the problem lies. Maybe a timing issue?

I'm also exiting NextPVR after initiating the recording but that should not be an issue since the service continues to run AND the recording is created when I initiate it from Live TV and then close.

Regards.

I don't know. It's got to be something funny about that directory, like permissions. I've not seen any other reports of this issue.

If it's a new show you've not recorded before, does it manage to create the show's directory?

Yes, when the recording IS created (via initiation from Live TV) it creates the show folder and places the recoding in that folder.

I'll pursue your hunch about the permissions and specify the recordings be stored in another location. Which do you recommend? Will a folder in the C:\Users\Public directory suffice?

Regards.

Yes your first log showed it being created in D:\Recordings so it is definitely weird. If you change you Recordings folder temporarily to C:\LiveTV and restart the recording service does it work?
