Hi there,

I have been a user of XBMC for some time, and I've recently been trying out the PVR feature with the NextPVR backend in the latest release candidate; Frodo 12.0 RC3. I have managed to get live TV and recordings working satisfactorily after installing NPVR v2.5.9, the R2 patches and the NShared.dll patch, as recommended on the XBMC wiki page for NPVR.

The only real problem I am experiencing is to do with editing recording timers. I can set a timer to record a particular channel from within XBMC, however I can't go back and edit that timer, as the changes are not reflected in NPVR, and hence in XBMC as well. The problem is the same whether XBMC is running on the same PC as the NPVR server, or a different one.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can sort this out? Is it a common problem?

Cheers,
Jon

It works here fine with the R2 patch. You should definitely not update NShared.dll after the R2 patch.

Ok, I'll try installing the R2 patch over it and report back...

Still the same problem after re-installing the R2 patch. I've found, however, that I can edit most of the timer parameters successfully, except for the time name and the channel to be recorded.

In the NextPVR context changing time or channels would be a new rule. Since you can edit something I'm not sure it is the "same" problem I thought you were describing.

Does this mean that NextPVR doesn't allow you to change the channel or name? As far as I can see the timings are being changed successfully.

From memory if its a one off recording you cant edit it once set up
you have to cancel then set it up again (this is from nextpvr not xbmc)

I'm sort of running into this problem, too: I've got a bunch of Season timers set up, but I'm still fiddling with sources and thus having to remove/rebuild channel listings. So it looks like I've got all the timers ready to go, but the channel is now null, and I can't just pick a new one (i.e. the same one, but re-added)!

Is there really no other way to get the timers going again, other than blowing them all away and starting from scratch each time? Why can't NPVR allow changing the "channel" parameter in a timer?

It's just a bug. I'll put it on my list to fix.

I haven't committed much effort to XBMC timers because XBMC is clearly inadequate for recording management, and Timers are going to be fixed post-Frodo (invalidating anything I've done on that front).

Thanks Sub. It's reassuring that it's a known issue. Do you know if these changes to XBMC will be made between releases, or will we have to wait for version 13? I guess that might be a question for Team XBMC.

Cheers, Jon
