Hi there,

Periodically I keep retrying NextPVR, as I was very happy with GBPVR before it, but the latest version still gives me problems recording.

The test I do is to set up half a dozen recordings alternating between different multiplexes (BBC followed by ITV, the BBC followed by C4 etc), with hopefully enough time for the PC to sleep in between.

Unfortunately with the latest version I still have the problem that a number of the recordings in my test of 8 fail.

I've attached the NRecord logs it produced. The test I did was to watch ITV1 live, then stop viewing and sleep the PC with the following recordings set
* BBC1 1320-1325 (112MB)
itv1 1405-1407 (46MB)
BBC1 1450-1455 (193MB)
* Channel4 1530-1535 (69MB)
* BBC2 1616-1621 (87MB)
ITV1 1700-1705 (84MB)
* BBC3 1736-1738 (25MB)
E4 1800-1805 (81MB)

Those marked with a * failed to record anything playable, though they all produced files of the lengths above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to switch back to NextPVR.

Thanks,
Ed

Not very helpful I'm afraid but are you sure you don't just have a border-line signal or perhaps a faulty connection to the aerial input of your capture card?

BTW, BBC3 was doomed to failure anyway as it doesn't start broadcasting until 19:00.

Cheers,
Brian

NextPVR starts a process for each tuner and it is those processes that actually do the recordings. You should have a bunch of log files for the Ndigitalhost process. Please post those. Thanks.

Signal strength here is great, and I have no problem using Mediaportal with the exact same hardware setup.

Good spot on the bbc3 thing tho! Strange that it produces a decent sized file anyway.

I'll try and dig out the other log files tomorrow.

Other log files, as promised.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,

The Ndigitalhost log has
Quote:2013-02-10 18:00:02.907 [DEBUG][4] locked=1, present=1, strength=40, quality=10 (took 31ms to check)
I would not expect to get a result with Quality values of less than about 80. What happens if you try it without splitters or extensions in the aerial coax?

Not in answer to your problems, but I do suffer with problems on a Nova T 500 tuner when waking. I find a reboot of the PC every two weeks sorts it out. I suspect it may be down to the motherboard, but two machines do the same. I also get signal around 80 and quality is nearly always 100 which is a lot more than your log seems to be reporting.
Have you tried Hauppauges scanchannels tool to see what it reports?
As part of my wake routine I run one of microsofts tools showing device status and when mine dies I get something like the below. (I can't remember the tool, will post again when I'm back home. (google to the rescue). Devcon http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272

Thanks for the responses so far.

Graham - I can try when I get time, but I only relatively recently added a splitter, and I've had the problem for longer than the splitter so it seems unlikely it's that to me. Also, as mentioned, I normally run Mediaportal on the same box since I can't get this working, and that has no issues at all with recording after wake. NPVR is also quite happy to watch the channel live once it's tuned, and the problem occurs on more than one MUX.

Martin - my tuner is an older type Nova-T USB, so possibly similar. I think given your two machines have the same issue though, it's unlikely to be a motherboard issue or a tuner issue. Especially since, as I say, it works fine with different PVR software.
I haven't tried Hauppauge scanchannels - I've tried not to install any extraneous Hauppauge stuff to be honest as it probably wasn't written when Windows 7 was around anyway and much of it is awful! Will it tell me something more useful than sub's logs?
I've tried playing around with Devcon in the past, which didn't add lot. I even had it set up to try and reset the device and the hub on wake at one point to try and clear the problem before NPVR used it, but that didn't help either.

I used a Hauppauge Nova-t USB2 for years without problems so I would be surprised if it's the tuner. I had reception problems before the transmission power boost at switchover. My recollection is that scanning for channels was often problematic but that recording would usually work okay.

I agree - I've used mine for years without any issues. Well, other than this one, but it doesn't look hardware related to me. Channel scanning is fine - never had an issue. I did try increasing the wakeupbeforerecordingstart delay (or whatever the right XML tag should be - not got it handy), to give it 3 minutes, in case it was just a little sleepy and slow to wake up, but that hasn't helped.
