picture distorts at top of screen

My unit is giving me a picture with a wavy type distortion (see below) at the top of the screen with live tv and recordings. It kind of waves back and forth and is less noticeable on dark programs. I am using the current version of nextpvr with a comcast dta, windows xp. I have been using this setup for a year or so, longer without the dta. I have reinstalled video drivers, swapped dta, swapped coax cables. I hadn't made any changes i can recall immediately before this started happening.

I can't figure out what is happening or how to fix it, I need help.

What happens if you play the recording outside of NextPVR using Windows Media Player and using VLC?

That's not good if that's the case.

It seems unlikely that it is to do with NextPVR. Try recording with any and all extension coax and splitters removed to give the "cleanest" possible signal into the tuner.
