Those that have been using XBMC with the NextPVR addon will know that channel changes can be pretty damn slow. This was due to some stream analysis done by XBMC before it begins playback of the stream. Thankfully some of the XBMC developers having working on fixing this, and it looks like it's pretty close to being resolved.

The build that was posted at https://dl.dropbox.com/u/7249985/xbmc/xb...margro.exe, gives me channel changes that take about a second on my DVB-S tuner.

You can find discussion about these changes at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1376233

sub I built the FernetMenta version yesterday and couldn't move between tuners and this 12.1 version has the same problem. Basically it is fast on one tuner but as soon as I change tuners it stalls. Do you think this is a problem with their code or with NextPVR? Do you have multiple tuners at you end to test? It does handle changes on digital form 480i to 720p to 1080i and ac3 2.0 to 5.1 so it isn't just characteristics.

I just checked here, and I'm able to successfully switch between channel coming from HDPVR2 (H.264), and DVB-S channels (MPEG2). It takes a few extra seconds going between devices, which is expectable since it requires stopping and starting different devices.

Also, try the updated addon I posted rather than the one that comes with that build. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post454440

It turn out my ATSC signal is weak and I am not locking well to some channels. It is working well when I have a strong signal. I tried the new dll but don't see the close message in the logs

For comparison I went back to 12.1 and as it turns out the times didn't change that much, checking the logs and from pageup to player start 2 is about 2-3 seconds either way with a bit of a pause between channels. I don't surf this way so maybe I don't know what the expected time is.

I was getting at least 6-8 second changes before, and they're now about 1 second for me. This is the difference between very slow channel changes, and quick channel changes.

Is your 2-3 seconds with ATSC channels? Even that's not too bad, and comparable to a lot of a set top boxes. How quick were your channel changes with the same tuner in Frodo 12.0? I'd never get below about 6 seconds.

ATSC is 2-3 now and in a quick test it was 3-4 before so it has improved but not to 1 second. Maybe the fact I have a slower server with a fast client (wifi) changes things 8 seconds is/was my HDPVR but that includes 5 seconds for tuning.

Odd. I could never get anything like 3-4 seconds before, but I can see it would it'd be less startling if it'd only improved things by about a second.

I see McLarenMP4 also commented his channel changes are near instant now, and a huge improvement, so I'm sure it's not just me who is going to benefit from this. Many of my channel changes are taking less than a second.

Yeah I was the same as you for DVB-S channels it was 6-8 seconds & strangely DVB-S2 channels tuned slightly quicker between 3-4 seconds, now they are all 1 second.
It's certainly getting there, if only it could handle weak signals slightly better. I don't mind the picture or sound glitching like in nPvr but the constant buffering is slightly annoying.
