Trying to setup NextPVR for the first time and am getting an error when trying to import the EPG using mc2xml.

"Unexpected error importing channels: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object"

Anyone know how to resolve this problem?

You'll need to zip and attach the npvr.log.

wait, why are you trying to import channels into a digital device? It doesn't work that way on digital. You need to scan the device for channels, then map them to the EPG data on the Channels screen.

The Import Channels function is for Analog devices, and maybe HDHR/DC-2650 devices (not sure how those work).

Yep, good point. You look like you're trying to import a device definition from an xmltv file. You definitely shouldn't be doing that. Go to the channels setting, and double click a channel to set it's EPG.

The error message causes me to wonder if you have generated a TVGUIDE.xml file yet? It would be in the folder you created called "mc2xml" if you followed the Wiki slavishly (some of us prefer to call it "EPG"). You can't map your channels to EPG data until this file exists.

Just to be clear - that 'import channels' button only accepts an xml file that was previously created with a click to the 'export channels' button sitting next to it.

I've added some user-proofing for the next build to let the user know they try to import the wrong type of xml file, like an xmltv file.

Thanks for the quick and great responses..

So, yes these are all digital channels and I do not have a Schedules direct account nor do I want to pay for an EPG, isn't that what mc2xml is for? I was following the following guide: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?....EPGMC2XML

I don't see a npvr.log in the installation directory would it exist somewhere else?

I've attached a picture of what sources are available for the channel selected, XMLTV is an option...? also a pic of the mc2xml directory of all the files in it.

"Just to be clear - that 'import channels' button only accepts an xml file that was previously created with a click to the 'export channels' button sitting next to it."

That might explain the error for sure..

So, in the end I guess my question is how do I set an EPG for my channels other than using Schedules Direct but using another source?

Thanks,

Logs: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...Parts#logs

To use the xml file generated by mc2xml.exe:
1. Select XMLTV as source
2. Point to the TVGUIDE.xml file
3. Map the channel

OK, thanks for the quick response.

I didn't realize the application installed in 2 places, program files and user profile... got the log now.

So, after making the changes to the channels and setting them to use XMLTV (thanks) for the source, I manually ran a refresh so the new data would pull and I had mixed results.

The EPG was updated but the channels and the programming were not matched correctly.

"The Golf Channel" doesn't broadcast hockey... er at least the last time I looked. :-)

Did you map channels? See http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...n.Channels

In the Channel Details dialog ... the upper channel name is the name that NextPVR acquired for this channel during the scan. The lower channel name (by Mapping) list is all the channel names that NextPVR found in you xmltv file. NextPVR does the best that it can to map channels but ... Plus, you can try Bulk Map to speed things up ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...on.BulkMap
