Recording multiple channels on the same Mux

Hi,
Planning on using a DVB-S (in the post now) with NextPVR. I read in the wiki that NextPVR allows simultaneous recordings on one LNB if the channels are in the same mux.
Is there a list of what channels share a satellite mux, or can I find it somewhere within NextPVR (norification or anything?)

Thanks
Steve

You may wish that you hadn't asked but you might start here ... http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-1N.html

A lot of the shared mux's are "wasted" by being filled with regional variations. Much more impressive multirecording on freeview.

That response time was phenomenal. Thanks!

So, am I right in thinking you can only record from one transponder at any one time (e.g. 10714 H is transponder 41 so Chan 4 london and Film 4 could be recorded together), or are other similar bands from other transponders also recordable (e.g. 10744 H alongside 10714 H) if they are 'similar enough' in frequency (if so, what's the limit?)

Following on from that H and V polarisation, how does that come into it (if two transponders can be used simultaneously)

Sorry for all the questions, but it saves me asking afterward Smile

Thanks

The mux is a single stream of data. Within that stream one or more channels are multiplexed together. The tuner passes the entire stream to NextPVR and NextPVR extracts one or more channel sub-streams from the overall stream.

If a mux has ten channel sub-streams, then NextPVR can extract each stream and record ten shows using a single tuner.

My (poor) understanding is that the H and V is irrelevant to this process because each frequency/mux is H or V and there is never a H stream and a V stream on the same frequency.

Plus, my (poor) understanding is that you get one frequency/mux per LNB so a dual LNB with a dual tuner will allow you to record shows from two frequencies/muxes simultaneously (and within weeks you will curse because two is not enough).

Plus, don't forget the bit about DVB-S versus DVB-S2 and SD versus HD?

I may just buy a number of tuners then. Might make things a bit easier.

I'm presuming NextPVR is smart, and if multiple streams are requested (by different XBMC intenances) and there are multiple recordings scheduled, it would do it's best to accommodate by using muxes where apropriate and other tuners when not.

As my dish is a quad LNB, 4 muxes (transponders?) is all that I could get anyway.

Yep.

Yep.

We recommend that you get everything running smoothly (including playing recordings and Live TV) in NextPVR before you start with XBMC.
