I've had this for a while, but since I'm leaving on a vacation, it looks like it may haunt me a bit by using up my free space. I have set up some recurring recordings to keep only 1 or 2 recordings of the shows. NPVR realizes this, and removes the older recording from the database. But it doesn't delete the recording, so I am stuck with a growing use of my hard drive, even though it appears that NPVR has removed the recording. The npvr.log file shows this:

2013-05-27 11:00:03.087 [DEBUG][9] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: database file change detected, starting schedule update timer.
2013-05-27 11:00:03.264 [DEBUG][9] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: database file change detected, increasing schedule update timer interval.
2013-05-27 11:00:03.406 [DEBUG][9] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: database file change detected, increasing schedule update timer interval.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.419 [DEBUG][17] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: update procedure starting.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.542 [DEBUG][17] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: updated '[7402] Property Virgins [4359056] (c_7259, 5/27/2013 11:00 AM - 11:30 AM)'.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.544 [DEBUG][17] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: removing '[7401] Property Virgins [4359053] (c_7259, 5/27/2013 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM)'.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.544 [DEBUG][17] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: detected change in scheduled recordings.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.544 [DEBUG][17] TV Listings: RecordingSchedule: finished updating recording schedule, broadcasting changes.
2013-05-27 11:00:06.544 [DEBUG][17] TV Recordings: Panel: recording schedule changed, updating.

So it removes the older listing, but doesn't delete the recording. Is this how npvr works, or could there be something more at play where I should upload my logs?

I'v never used this feature myself, but my understanding is that npvr should delete the recording also.

I use this feature all the time, and it definitely deletes the older recordings for me. You're not running anything that could have had the file open, stopping the app from being able to delete it?

You'd probably need to post the recording service logs, covering a new recordings, so that we can see the messages about it attempting to delete the old recording.

I run a parallelprocessing.bat with comskip running, so that's the only thing that could get in the way that I'm aware of. The strange thing is that I can watch a video and I can delete it fine, but when it comes to deleting older recordings, it just doesn't work for me. I checked out the log files, and the recording service logs definitely show that it will be deleting, and even shows the command to remove the .log and .txt etc files, they just don't get removed physically.

I will play with the parallel processing file, and see if that makes any difference. Otherwise, I'm not sure if windows 8 is doing something on my system... I'll post my log files tomorrow if my playing around doesn't fix itself.

ADDED INFO: I deleted the parallelprocessing, getting rid of the run of hiderun & comskip, and that allowed the system to delete the ts file with the keep = 1. So I think what I'll have to do is keep parallelprocessing off while I'm gone, and turn it back on when I can manually manage the hard drive. Unless there's another option that I'm unaware of. The weird thing is that the first attempt at deleting was on a file that completed 90 minutes earlier, so I would have thought everything finished on that file... strange.
