Can you do multi-rec with the command line? If not isn't BDA they way to go?

BDA will only give you the ClearQAM channels though, which is usually only a small handful of local channels. He'd be much better off using the method he's currently using, and getting the copy-freely channels - which can give access to most channels except premiums (unless the cable operator is prick).

It's highly unlikely you'd get HBO in NextPVR. The cable company will almost certainly mark this channel as either copy-never or copy-once, making it inaccessible to NextPVR.

If a cable card is inserted in the device, multirec should not be possible regardless of method used. It's against Cable Labs specs.

Since they also have an ATSC tuner maybe there is a different path to a ClearQAM tuner for bda.

Sounds like FiOS is very good about not flagging encrypted channels as copy-once, although I agree that HBO is improbable. In theory FiOS should be able to tell you; but if they're like most cable companies, it would be a miracle if you could get someone on the phone who even understood what you were talking about.

FiOS is one of the only cable providers in the U.S. that's using h.264 for certain premium channels (another being Cox Cable): http://blog.michaelfmcnamara.com/2013/03...g-4-h-264/

It would be interesting to know if a Prime with a cablecard could deliver those channels.

I'm glad that sub was able to identify that network problem.

I'm pretty sure it'd deliver it, and you could record from these channels, but you probably wouldn't be able to watch live tv on these channels, because it'd currently assume MPEG-2 and add the wrong type of video decoder.
