The Wandboard Quad is now out and might be a candidate for an extender:

http://www.wandboard.org/

The quad has the GC2000 video core which may be sufficient for HDTV.

The folks on the slimdevices forum are working on a audio player using the Wandboard solo and dual, and have a Linux OS installation.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread...eeze-OS-R3

Add XBMC and NPVR as back end and ready to go? Or even port PCH NPVR and run it natively?
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

It would likely be a good candidate for a PCH style client although the i.MX6 is not the best ARM Quad http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/53162-pi..._p__584362

Unfortunately it is probably too expensive for the NextPVR extender user base who likely will focus on cheaper devices running XBMC for Android, the RPi or use their phones running nDroid/iNEWA

I'm not so sure at $129US (although the dual at $99US would fit the price range better) it's in the same range as the NMT's were & a reasonable number went for them.....

I'm also sure I'm not the only old fart around here (actually I know for a fact of at least another two that think the same as I do) that uses only extenders & have no intention of running XBMC (after playing with it & not liking it or it's development cycle at all) & as my A100 has just stopped talking to the remote & I'm now running on my spare NMT I have been thinking about this quite a bit the last couple of days wondering what I will do if another one goes belly up....

That's a bareones price. Add a case for waf if you can find one, hdmi cable, power supply, remote/ir and it quickly adds up to $150 or more.

It's probably no great secret that I'm one of the other old farts... Smile

I just prefer the NPVR interface on my extenders via mvpmcx2 - I especially like the Music Library 4 and the SSPlus screensaver plugins and the JustRetro skin...

Speaking of old farts I just checked and I joined the mvpmc team in Nov 2005 primarily to fix the slimserver support on the MediaMVP It's very simple on most h/w these days, a Wandboard is sure overkill.

Actually no you weren't one of them as I felt (rightly as it turned out) you would speak out for yourself if you agreed

Couldn't agree more Wink

It would really depend on what else it did extra apart from/extra to what the current NMT does.... if it only allowed the same as the NMT does now then it is most likely a tad on the expensive side.... but I feel it is way passed time "some replacement for the NMT" was found as it has now been quite some time since they went out of production.

Me too Wink

I also prefer the simpler interface on the NMT (also still on gbpvr for the main setup as I prefer the search facility) but I do have the NMT's setup to use two servers for gbpvr and npvr. I am dabbling with ndroid on a tablet after being greatly impressed with the Sky+ tablet app.

I've had the Wandboard Quad for a month now and it is an interesting option and at @150 with case & shipping before tax it wan't too expensive. I was hoping the Ulitlite also an i.MX6 device would be cheaper but it turns out to cost even more. The good news is the dual core is probably good enough as a client. It is still very much a hobbyist board and its full capabilities for media have not been explored.

I'm following all the cheap Android, xbmc and reven Samsung posts with interest and maybe if there is enough interest in a full extender again that cost more, I can start being a bit more serious.

Remember, the boring old farts are all looking for a full extender which costs less... Smile
