Did not hear back yet.... but I believe this is the setting that you will need to set on VLC on your server.... I think I mentioned this in this thread earlier.

When I set this I can see the transcoding starting right away but on the client side I don't see anything for 20 seconds.....which is what the image below shows I have it set for.

So with this caching to allow your transcoded video to be queued up for viewing and the client network cache set to help with internet latency you should be able to ensure you have things set the best you can in regards to eliminating latency in the creation or delivery of the stream.

Hi UJB,

Indeed I thought that H264 would need more speed, so that's why I didn't try that. But the result was so much better!

I haven't tried the buffer yet you mentioned in the last post, wasn't necessary (at home/work), because quality at work was very good.

Yesterday evening (it's now early morning) I arrived on my holiday destination after driving for 11 hours. Very busy unpacking, trying to get the children to sleep, etc, etc. Very late yesterday evening, I have been trying to get newa to work, but I keep getting the message in explorer "this page can't be shown". When I click on "solving connection problems" I get the notice that the source doesn't respond.

I'm going to try to get to connection working first. Hopefully tonight when the children are in bed. The connection speed it perfect here, that's no problem. Next thursday I'm supposed to get 30 down/3 3 up at home (will see that when/if it works). I can connect to the server with teamviewer, I'm not behind a proxy.
On my server I can login throught my external ip (but on my client, laptop on holiday location I don't get the connection).

Wim

EDIT: also, I can login through external IP on the HFS server (HttpFileServer) from the server, but not from my client. Even with the windows firewall turned off.
Is it related to the wan I'm on now? (I had to login the first time on the wan I'm on now).
EDIT2: I can connect to hfs server and newa through proxyfort and I can navigate within the hfs server, but I can't enter newa site (that didn't work at home also).
I think the connection will also be slower, but the biggest thing is I can't stream, only download.
EDIT3: the ports on my wlan here are filtered. Meaning "A port is marked as "filtered" when the packets are sent to that port, however packet filtering (e.g., firewall) prevents the packets from reaching that port."

UJB,

(update for otther users: I seem to be behind a firewall, so I can;t connect directly to my own IP-address).

I didn't know how to add an image to a PM, so I'm posting it here. Some proxy servers and worthless, some get me a bit further but then I get issues like you see in the attachment. Maybe it tells you something.

By the way, it looks like all ports here are closed, I don't know how I am able to internet if it's true though.

Even with TOR, I'm unable to start a stream and pick it up with vlc (I can't get tor to work with anything but firefox and I can't find the correct plugin for firefox.

I tried putting a proxy server (http://sourceforge.net/projects/poxy/?source=dlp) on my business server, but that doesn't do anything.

Maybe someone else knows a proxy server that handles the java code from newa correct?

Tried proxify (the install version), everything works except streaming. VLC says it can't connect to ip:7648 vlc plugin doesn't seem to do anything.

My guess would be that your server is streaming and proxify is moving it to a different port :7648 it moves your request to a different port..... in either case you would not connect. since you are able to map to :8866 ok you could try changing your stream port to that port.....although I do not recommend it in general since you should only be doing one thing on a single port.

That didn't work either.

I also tried vlc and wmp not as external players, then I get another error like the ones in post #43, see attachment.

I have no idea....

I have talked to the people that control the access point over here and they helped me open the port 80 and 443 for me. EDIT: so I don't need to use a proxy anymore. I now can connect to newa if I forward the port correct.

I think I should use different ports for live tv (port ???) and for streaming of video's (standard 7648) and for the web server (standard 8866). What port do you recommend for each (especially live tv since I think it works different)?

Live tv seems to be needing lots of buffering. What can I do about that?

Greetings,

Wim

8866 = NEWA and Live Tv from Guide.
Any other port other than 8080 for Streaming.

Could it be that livetv is streaming unencoded versus selecting an ongoing show and then selecting "stream now"?

Furthermore, I thought I had it going until this morning when suddenly nothing (even newa screen) worked anymore...........???
So I'm setting it all up again, but I have a conflict. Could you please read these logs?

Seeing all the problems I'm having at the moment, just to be sure:
Can I use port 80 port forwarded to 8866 for NEWA and 7648 port forwarded to 443 for streaming?
