Laptop IR as an IR Blaster?

Tried searching if this was ever done, but is it possible to use a laptop's IR as an IR Blaster?

If so, I may consider converting an old laptop as my HTPC...? (Haha, of course this is just to save $30 for a blaster.)

No, its not possible. These are typcially designed for IRDA which operate quite differently to IR signals used by consumer electronics.
