I watch SD content over DVB-S broadcast from FreeView NZ. I find that the cyberlink MPEG2 decoder (and others) seems to jump in and out of de-interlacing. I did find a setting in FFDSHOW that forces interlacing on, and that solved the problem, but I much prefer the video quality of the cyberlink decoder.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to force the interlaced flag on NPVR's live TV stream so that the cyberlink decoder deinterlaces everything?

Cheers,
Bill.

I just set cyberlink to force bob in decoder settings
Not sure if this applies to live tv but it's set outside of NPVR which just calls the decoder do it should

I believe the best way is to force it in the Graphics Card Drivers.
With an AMD Radeon HD5 series I untick Use Automatic Settings and put the slider over to Vector Adaptive - so much better than Bob.
With earlier Catalyst Versions it would often drop back to bob - and I could spot the difference - but the latest betas are rock solid on my system.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

What do you see when the de-interlacing goes off?

Fuzzy Screen & Juddering Pans - especially side scrolling text on News Tickers judders badly

Also make sure refresh is set to 50hz not 60Hz
Vector adaptive is probably better but bob is what I have always used and been happy with

I have experienced the juddering pans myself, and the best setting I found for de-interlacing was also "bob", and that is set in the video card configuration. Unlike stustunz, I found that 60hz is better than 50hz. This is probably an interaction between the original material, decoder, video card, and tv, so everyone will have different results. (I've also settled on the arcsoft video decoder.)
I had a recorded pan scene which showed up the problem well, and experimented with the video settings until I got the best result, however the final improvement was a new video card (a Radeon HD5450 for NZ$66.25).
I suspect that what you are seeing is the de-interlacing method flitting between settings when set to auto?
The strange thing is that I can't see why any de-interlacing should be involved in my case, as I understand that all HD is transmitted as 1080p.

If I change any decoder settings via NPVR, they don't have any effect and are back to the defaults if I look again.

My understanding (based on something I read) that HD was not interlaced appears to be wrong. "Mediainfo v0.7.63" tells me that all my .ts files are interlaced.
Logically, 25 fps interlaced, would be the ideal display setting, but that makes panning scenes horribly jerky (even doubling back on itself).
My theory is that no matter what it is fed with (progressive or interlaced), the TV itself converts it to progressive to display it, and in this case does a rather poor job, the video card does it better. 50Hz interlaced is not much better, and the only "1920 by 1080, True Color" mode listed in my adaptor modes which is not interlaced is 60 hz, which is why I ended up using that.

Note that the radeon "Catalyst Control Centre" doesn't even tell me whether it is outputting p or i. To know what is going on I have to go to Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Adapter tab, List all modes.
