As per title. I've recently upgraded my old VISTA Rig with Win 7.I thought it might work better, but while H264 HD FTA is fine, the feed through the cable box (MPEG2 Video with MPEG1 Audio) is rubbish, green blocky artifacts all over and stuttering like a baboon. Oddly it was fine in VISAT, but it is in the newer Win7 where it doesn't work. What can I do to troubleshoot? Tried a bunch of OTHER decoder (Vid+Audio) combos, none work. Is there any setting in registry to change? Am running SAF 6.21 but was same without it. Am close to upgrading my HD 3400 Vid Card to a 5 or 6 series (fanless) and be done with it but want to make sure that WILL make it better. I've been troubleshooting this for too long! Cheers k.

no, I really don't think replacing your HD3400 will make any difference, that card should be plenty capable.

try disabling all video and audio decoders except the mpeg decoders; use the Microsoft decoders for both of those. not as a real solution, just a test to see if you get good playback that way.

also, have you tried playing your analog recordings in VLC? let's make sure we're chasing the right problem.

Maybe you are on the wrong track. Do mpeg2 recordings play? I've read that the PVR 150 doesn't work with 4GB in 64bit. You can use msconfig to limit memory to 4095 to confirm.

Good to hear thanks. Rationale being if it can do H264 smoothly, why not MPEG2.

I had already tried that (sorry I didn't say so), that's why I am so frustrated right now.

Yes, but only ones recorded in my VISTA system worked. The LiveTVBuffer ones (IRRC) had the SAME issue. So you're both maybe onto something!

Holy cow. Where do you READ all this stuff! I need to go look. Can I do this for NPVR or the HW (PVR150) only or will it limit the WHOLE of Win 7 x64 (how did you know I had instaleld that :-) ) ? I'd be struggling to find another analogue card that could do this (and be supported by NPVR).

I've got this annoying problem where I remember a lot of the posts I read and you helped with your config in your messages. I've been following threads on 64bit OSes since I am finding no advantage to changing my backend from 2GB 32bit Vista and certainly nothing worth giving up firewire tuning or the option of plugging in my old pvr 150 if needed.

Sadly all Windows.

Hmmm. Right options are:

A. msconfig the Win 7 x64 box to 4GB
OR
B. Get a replacement for the PVR150 that DOES work with Win 7 AND for systems > 4GB.

I will do (A) in the short term.
For (B), oddly, some suggestions were thrown my way in another thread on a related topic.

The conclusion was I'd need
  • An analog card with a Tuner in it, as NPVR doesn't recognize one without.
  • A card with composite or RCA or SVIDEO in, just not HDMI as it doesn't let copy protection through.

Options were given / have found that might work, and were mainly HARDWARE encoder-based are:
  • http://www.hauppauge.com.sg/site/product...900hd.html
  • http://dx.com/p/hdmi-1-3-pci-express-hig...card-72046
  • Hauppauge Colossus http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products...ossus.html
  • Any Hauppauge HD-PVR with Composite or Component Inputs e.g. http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products...hdpvr.html [The HD-PVR2 series appear NOT suitable due to HDMI only - see above]
  • See also this post - http://www.avsforum.com/t/1344575/tv-tun...4gb-memory
    [-] That says: Hauppage 2250 and ATI on the other hand has their 650 based tuners working;

I haven't yet checked their compatibility with Win 7 x64 with >4GB Ram - but I'd be glad if anyone could recommend one of these that works, or any other suggested cards to replace the PVR150 that might work with Win7 X64. Given my location, QAM or ATSC products are unlikely here. Bear in mind that all it needs to do is take the feed from a set-top box decoder and feed that into Win 7 x64. Any comments on whether Hardware or Software (cheaper) based cards might work also appreciated.

Cheers

k.

Hong Kong and it's PAL-I using "DMB-T/H". 2210 would be it then I guess.

TBH I'm not too worried about the tuner part (sub just said I need that simply for it to be recognized by NPVR in the first place!!). I never use the PVR-150 Tuner at all.
I have two other Tuners Hauppauge USB DMB-TH HD ministicks for H264 FTA TV.
All this is JUST to get the signal from the NowTV Cable Box into the PC/NPVR, and not have that tuner throw a sicky at Win7 x64 with > 4GB ram. So all I need is something with composite or component inputs (Colossus would be an expensive option). Happy to hear others!
