3.1.1 problems...

Prior to upgrading to 3.11, I had a very stable and nicely working system, now that I upgraded to 3.1.1, I am having all kinds of random lockups, slow motion playbacks and my EPG not parsing properly.(it locks up on the updating recording schedule screen) I have a very basic system with one Happague tuner in SD, and rather than burden you with trying to figure out all the reasons I am having these multiple problems, I would just like to know how to back out of 3.11 and so i can re-install 2,6,2 and keep my database of shows and not need to set up my tuner again...

I tried using the uninstall program in the c:\program files\npvr folder and what happens is after the uninstall completes, then i try to re install 2.6.2, and , when the installer is running and gets to NPVR.EXE I get a system crash (it just occurred to me, as I am posting this,....do i need to reboot after the uninstall of 3.1.1 is complete, before I install the older version??) and if i try to run npvr, the system will crash.

I am sure 3.11 is a very good upgrade, but for my simple setup, running an older NTSC non HD system.. sadly it did more harm than good.

Windows 7 pro
Intel E440 dual processor @ 2 gig
1 gig ram (please stop laughing...i know ...I know)
Nvidia geoforce 210

any help would be greatly appreciated Smile
thanks

You'll need to restore your 2.6.2 data directory, particularly npvr.db3 and config.xml before trying to run 2.6.2. If you don't have a backup, you'll need to backup and then delete your 3.1.1 data directory, then re-install 2.6.2 and recreate your config (tuners, channels, epg, etc.). Finally you can restore your recording and recurring backup.xml files.

Hello blegdon. When you last posted in August you mentioned installing the TV Listings plugin. Probably your biggest problem with 3.1.1 is that previous versions of TV Listings (and most other plugins) are no longer compatible. There's a new TV Listings 3.7 Beta in the Add-ons forum. If updating TV Listings doesn't solve every problem you could zip and attach your logs.

You are right, most of the plug ins are not working properly, and i have disabled them, as a test to see if that improves things. One thing I neglected to mention, and this may or may not be the cause of some of the problems, is I control the NPVR-PC thru VNC the majority of the time( 99+%). It is either controlled by my pc or android tablet running a VNC client.
One thing I did notice, and I am not sure if this is relevant, is that I seem to have most of the playback problems after extended periods of playback.. (after watching a 2 hr movie, for example....the playback will slow down to what looks like slow motion, .and a reboot is the only resolution..Perhaps a warning to an imminent hard drive failure???)

If i continue to have problems, I will attach my logs..., which logs would you want to see??

sounds like an overheating problem but that wouldn't explain why it worked fine before 3.1.1. try with the lid off perhaps?
you might want to check windows event viewer for any windows problems.
After reproducing the problem, zip and attach all the logs as described in the sticky post at the top of the support forum.

I originally had thought it was an overheat problem, but usually (in my experience anyway) that will result in a BSOD, I think it is a throughput problem, it may be that MSSE is interfering, although i keep turning it off, somehow it gets turned back on. The drive that stores all my recorded video is an external drive, connected by USB2. I have disabled all my plugins and will continue to run the system and see if that helps.

thank you everybody for sharing your experience and knowledge

If your CPU gets too hot, it may *throttle* itself and underclock to protect itself. I could imaging graphics cards doing a similar thing. Anyway, it was fine before 3.1.1. so it is unlikely to be this.

The EPG update when flawlessly Smile, so now am 100% sure all my problems were being cause by the various plug in's that i was using. I do have one more question, I will probably roll back to 2.6.2 in the next few days, my question is, where is, or how do i create the backup.xml file....and will that reload all the shows i have in my database?
thanks again everybody

Settings->Recording->Export Recordings. It will create backups of all the shows currently in your database, and also all the recurring recordings you have set.

It also creates the backup xml files each night during the EPG udpate process.
