I have a problem where the LiveTV buffer will keep recording, long after playback has been stopped in XBMC, or the program has been closed.
It also does not appear to have any limit, it will keep generating files with the suffix "-1", "-2". I've seen it get as far as "-6" without clearing.

This is a major issue as I only have a small hard drive and it is quickly filled.

For the moment I am manually stopping the NPVR service, clearing the LiveTV buffer, then restarting the service.

I noticed in a previous patch for an old version, nshared.dll was updated to fix this.

Help!

Thanks

Have you upgraded to 3.1.1? If so compress and upload your xbmc.log and all your nextpvr logs. If you haven't upgrade to 3.1.1 but never use the old NShared files with 3.1.1

Yep, I'm on 3.1.1.
I haven't applied any patches yet.

Here are the logs

You probably don't remember but when you went to Gem how did you go there?

14:13:13 T:3980 NOTICE: PVRManager - PVR::CPVRManager:TongueerformChannelSwitch - switched to channel 'GEM'

The log is quite different from when you tuned channels 4, 10 and 13

Hmmm. No I don't fully remember. It would have either been accessed from the EPG popup or the channel selector in the XBMC Live TV menu.

So any ideas? Anything I can do with the logs to help with troubleshooting?

Sorry, can you try again to reproduce this, but this time with Debug logging enabled in XBMC?

Restart the NextPVR Recording Service first, to clear the logs.

Try to reproduce it with as few steps as possible. ie, start live tv on a channel, wait 20 seconds, then stop live tv. Then wait a 10 minutes or so, then zip up the nextpvr logs and xbmc.log and repost.

Here you go.

Steps performed:
- Debug mode enabled
- XBMC closed
- NPVR stopped
- Logs cleared
- NPVR started
- XBMC started
- Started watching GEM (10 mins?)
- Stopped watching GEM
- Left XBMC running (2 hours?)
- Closed XBMC
- Zipped logs

Noticed when zipping the logs that GEM was still recording to my C:\LiveTVBuffer\ folder even though I had stopped it in XBMC about over an hour ago.

Hope it helps!

Do you have TimeShift enabled in the XBMC addon's settings? You should.

When this is enabled, the addon explicitly tells the addon when the live stream is stopping, which should trigger NextPVR to close the stream and delete the temporary files. If you don't have it enabled, it uses the old scheme of rely on Windows to tell NextPVR that the socket connection is gone - this worked fine for most people, but for some people the socket never seemed to close fully, so NextPVR thought the client was still watching live tv and continued to send the stream. It sounds like this is what you're seeing.

FWIW for me Timeshift has never worked reliably and it hangs more than it works.
