so then after i do a clean install of 2.6.2 then in import those 2 files, re install my capture device, re-define my file locations...and update my epg, I should be good to go...is that correct?

The EPG update when flawlessly , so now am 100% sure all my problems were being cause by the various plug in's that i was using. I do have one more question, I will probably roll back to 2.6.2 in the next few days, my question is, where is, or how do i create the backup.xml file....and will that reload all the shows i have in my database?

I'm confused I think, but if it's now working why do you want to roll back to 2.6.2?? What plugins were you using?? as I think almost all of them now work with 3.1.1

You'd probably do the rest of the config first, then import the two files as the last step.

update,.... after a week of use with no plug in's things are working perfectly as before.

On an unrelated subject, is there any way to have all the files play from a particular folder without intervention, for example if I have 4 or 5 episodes of star trek recorded, is it possible for when the first episode ends the next one will automatically start to play until all the recorded shows in that folder have played.....thank you so much for your replies.

Yes, but only from the Video library. Add your Recording folder to Settings->Media Folders->Video Folders. Then when browsing the videos, press Play (or Ctrl-P) when you have the directory name (i.e. "[Star Trek]") highlighted, and it will play everything in the folder. I think it also works if if you're in the list of files and press Play on the [..] entry, assuming you haven't hidden it.
