i can't play imported .mpg's from a pc client, plays fine on server pc..i figure it's looking for a timing.info but i can't generate one on a .mpg file... Sad
the files are imported from pvrx2 and play fine from recordings screen on server pc, but only imported h264 .ts files play on clients..no imported .mpgs

is there something i can do?

all the logs show is cant find duration

2013-11-07 06:59:10.347 [DEBUG][1] GetDuration returning 0

tried changing the mpg graph config options with no luck..

Not really, the client streaming only supports ts files. Sub did some initial work on shared based streaming but I don't think anyone has even tried it or if it is something that sub is even offering to users at the moment.

It probably would work with my touch client in xbmc.

Yep, as Martin says, client/Server support only streams the file types that NextPVR records. ie, .ts files. Unfortunately each and every different file type I wanted to stream would require a big chunk of work, with custom directshow filters etc, so instead I just focused on the file types the application creates, and I just advise people to leave their files as .ts.

But you can add the directory with the .mpg files to the client's video library and play them from there.
BTW, wasen't there an alternative way to play recordings on a client, directly from a share or something?

would love to know of any alternative methods, don't mind jumping though a few hoops till i get them all watched..[new shows will be .ts]

it's gonna make moving from pvrx2 to npvr a real pain..lots of atsc recordings to import, but only playable on main machine..
.mpg used to work fine on clients..tho i suppose lots has changed since early days of npvr..

what's easiest/fastest way to convert to .ts?

If they are MPEG2 recordings, you should be able to use the following:
Code:
"[PATH_TO]\ffmpeg.exe" -i "%~n1.mpg" -f mpegts -vcodec copy -acodec copy "%~n1.ts"

If they were MP4/MKV with H.264 video, you need to add " -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb" to the end and use a copy of ffmpeg from 2011 or newer (and change the input extension above obviously).

Pretty sure it had something to do with this setting in Config.xml:
Code:
<RecordingDirectoryTranslation>d:\temp~\\someserver\someshare</RecordingDirectoryTranslation>
Sub??

i found reference to using it, but i don't see any effect in logs of it being tried..
[i already had the translations in there on client, added to server, no change]

I have always used tsMuxeR (GUI) to mux to ts or m2ts simple drag&drop.

And just discovered it is back in development after a break of 5 years http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=168539
(3D Blu-ray support etc.Cool)
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh
