I dont think the switching we are talking about from MVP is auto TV switching more that it starts in 4:3 and then MVP recognises itself is set to 16:9 and auto MVP switches. Cheers Alan

I don't think that the aspect ratio setting has any effect on the menus (the menus are always shown in full frame, ie if you have a widescreen TV they are a bit fatter than if you have a 4:3 TV, setting the aspect ratio on the MVP to 4:3 has no effect on this), only on video (and photos?). My TV is permanently set in widescreen so that is not the problem for me.

I've figured out what is going on, there is something wrong with the latest Hauppauge software. When you change the configuration settings they only last until you shut the MVP down and then they revert back to the default next time it is started. It seems when you start GBPVR the configuration changes are gone and it starts with the default 4:3. I went back one version of hauppauge software and GBPVR now plays widescreen.

Would there be any way to make the 16x9 vs 4x3 setting in the XML file so that each MVP could keep the settings? I have two MVP's. One will be hooked to a 16x9 plasma TV starting tomorrow (hopefully!!!) and the other to a conventional 4x3 TV. I'll be using S-Video interfaces for both.

Maybe this is a stupid question (I know - there are only stupid people) but where is this setting in the MVP software? What is the MVP software?
Ok - so two stupid questions. I also have one widescreen tv and one 4:3 old CRT - will I have to change back and forth with the settings?

humpty Wrote:Maybe this is a stupid question (I know - there are only stupid people) but where is this setting in the MVP software? What is the MVP software? The "MVP" software is what you got with the mediaMVP. For the newest versions got to http://www.shspvr.com. If you start your MVP on that software there is a button called something like "settings" in the main menu page and in the menu that is brought up you can change the aspect ratio. It all depends on what your source is and which TV you use. The settings are not appropriately named, they should be "full picture" (16:9) and "centre cut" (4:3). The 16:9 setting just puts the whole picture on the screen and the 4:3 setting chops the sides off. If you recorded from a widescreen source this will display the approriate aspect ratio on your widescreen but you will need to change it to 4:3 for your 4:3 TV. If you recorded from a 4:3 source you need to use the MVPs 16:9 setting for both TVs but change the TV's aspect ratio setting to 4:3 on the widescreen TV. |
