Hello,
I just picked up an HDHR Prime a couple of days ago. I'm just looking for a way to record some TV shows, and figured I'd give NPVR a shot (as WMC does their dumb propriety stuff). Anyhow, I installed NPVR and have tried leaving settings on the default and also changing some of the decoders. However, nothing seems to work. When I click on Live TV nothing appears. The channels are showing up in the TV Guide. I read through a few posts and most say that a log file is necessary. If someone could help instruct me as to how that is done, I would be glad to do so.

The usual reason for problems with these devices is firewall software getting in the way, stopping data getting from the HDHR to NextPVR. To fix this, add firewall exclusions for npvr.exe and nrecord.exe.

There is a sticky thread describing where the log files are. If setting the firewall exclusions doesn't help, reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the npvr.log and nrecord.log.

There were a couple of log files. I added both.

As I mentioned above, I'd also need to the nrecord.log.

One observation from your npvr.log though - the ffdshow decoders have been problematic for users in the past. If you want to use these decoders, you need to go into the decoder settings (using the "..." button next to the decoder name), and make sure you enable MPEG-2 support, and you may also need to add nextpvr.exe to the list of allowed applications. MPEG-2 support is usually disabled in ffdshow by default.

I just edited my post above. It doesn't appear to be the decoders chosen, though. I have switched those around many different times and come up with the same results.

I'm pretty sure it's the firewall. Did you add the firewall exclusions I mentioned?

If you try to doing a recording, and end up with a zero byte file, then it's almost certainly the firewall.

With the prime, doesn't a firewall exception also need to be created for hdhomerun_config.exe ?

I'm pretty sure the SiliconDust installer creates this exception.

Try doing a recording, if you end up with a zero byte file, then you've still got something wrong with your firewall settings. If you end up with a valid file, then your problem is most likely related to the decoders you're using.
