So in the wiki page it mentions the following:

Quote:You can set the process priority, install location for VLC, bitrate, video size, buffer size, video/audio/mux combination for streaming, stream player (VLC or Windows Media) and view the video in the player via external player or web browser plugin.

For best streaming results use VLC 1.x or higher

Default Settings

VLC Player to open externally
Stream Bitrate = 256
320x213 Video Size
VLC Install Location set to c:\program files\videolan\vlc\
Stream Port = 7648 (If you change this port do not use 8080...this is used by VLC)
Stream Buffer = 5000 (5 seconds)
Below Normal Process Priority (on a strong machine you can bump it up but I have found no problems on this setting in combination with the other default settings)
Video/Audio/Mux combination = MP4 Video, MP4 Audio and Mpeg-TS Mux

I don't see any of those setting options. I only see what's in the image below. So whats' the story on this? Are these settings no longer available? Is it not possible to get NEWA setup for transcoding? What about the option to open in an external player? It doesn't seem to work. When I select view live it opens the chrome plugin. Initially that didn't even work. I had to uninstall the 64 bit version of VLC (yes, when the 64 bit version was installed I had the right path set in the VLC location field - Program Files - and it's now set to Progam File (x86) because the 32 bit version is installed) and install the 32 bit version to get the VLC plugin installed.

Consider it an Easter egg hunt, it is well hidden. Go to Manage Recordings for one of the available recordings, and you can change and update these options via the Stream Button.

So let me get this straight... This is what I have to do to transcode to another device (at least from within NEWA):

1) Go to the guide... But don't click on view live... instead
2) Click on the episode and tell it to record
3) Go into the manage recording tab
4) Click cancel (which doesn't appear to cancel/abort the recording - in fact there doesn't seem to be a way to do that in NEWA. Had to open up NPVR on the server PC to abort the recording when I was done playing around.)
5) Clicking cancel brings you the page with the aforementioned settings. Set them as needed
6) Click stream
7) Open the app on the device you want to play the stream on and enter the address (192.168.1.X:7648) to play the live tv stream (step seems to be necessary because the launch external player does nothing on my android)

Only app that seems to open this stream on my Android is MXPlayer. However, it doesn't have sound. Even if it did, the above process wouldn't pass the WAF test. Heck, it doesn't fly with me either. Please tell me there's a better way...

At least I got the sound to work with MXPlayer. Had to go into the Transcode options on NEWA and select manual options and then choose the appropriate video and audio codecs.

I don't stream from NEWA just X-NEWA for XBMC http://forums.gbpvr.com/forumdisplay.php?55-X-NEWA

Anyway this thread wasn't about streaming it was how to set the setting. I find that 320 for video doesn't work well try 480 or higher.

So you have to use XBMC on the server side...? I'm not an XBMC user. I use MB3. I'd rather not have to go through setting up XBMC.

no, XBMC is a client. NPVR is the server.
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV

Isn't it an add-on to XBMC? So you would have to install XBMC on your HTPC/Server, install the X-NEWA add-on, and use X-NEWA as the client on your Android device?

View Live uses NPVR native streaming.....it does not use VLC at all.

The Stream buttons on the Manage and Detail pages is what will allow you to use VLC to transcode.

On my tablet (generic M9000) I have to use MXplayer since it allows the option for Hardware decoding.

I do not use preset sizes.... instead I use the Ratio and set it somewhere between .25 to .40 I find the results with ratio provide better results.

Your upstream rate that you have with our ISP coupled with the CPU power on the server directly impact the quality you can get in streaming outside of the home network. I have a 30/30 Fiber connection with a 6 core CPU and get excellent results over the internet so long as where I am connected has a decent bitrate.... which unfortunately is not that often...

I used these settings several times over the last week remotely and results were good.
