Multiple clients can't watch the same channel?

I recently made the switch to NPVR and have came across something I find quite strange - I have multiple clients and 3 tuners (though some channels are only available via 1 tuner).
If one client is watching a channel that is only available on 1 tuner, and another client tries to watch the same channel, it comes back with 'no tuners available' - If it's already playing that channel surely it should just use the same timeshift files?!

Same goes for a recording, if a recording is in progress on a channel, and I start to watch that same channel via the client it gives the 'no tuners available' error.

Surely it isn't supposed to do this.. have I missed a configuration step somewhere?

An educated guess is that you are limited by channel decryption. There is a setting for each tv card how many simultaneous decryptions can be done.

I'm not sure how NPVR does this, but it does create one TS file pr stream. I never checked if it also decrypt pr stream.

It'll do this, but only with digital devices.

Ah OK at least its not something I've incorrectly configured :-)

So the tuner in question is actually a HDPVR so no decryption restrictions etc. I figured when I tried to tune the same channel at another client NPVR would just notice it was already playing that channel at another client and point the new client at the same time shift file as its what happened in mediaportal.. So this isn't possible for the HDPVR?

No, as I mentioned above, it only shares digital tuners with multiple clients. When it comes to old-school analog, or HDPVR, it needs one tuner per client.

Before XBMC I'd say most NextPVR users watched recordings and you could all watch the same recording (one resume point) but XBMC users (maybe because of cheap clients) seem to really prefer LiveTV. I'll keep multi-rec on my wishlist for the HDPVR.

I have an HDHomeRun Prime with CableCard and I'm having the same issue. Do you mean only OTA Tunners?

It allow multiple simultaneous streams for ATSC/QAM/DVB-S/DVB-C/DVB-T tuners.

For the HDHomeRun Prime CableCard stuff, it'll only do one stream per tuner. Thankfully you have three tuners on that device though, so three clients can be watching channels (or recording) at the same time.

Sub, unfortunately when I change to the same channel on one RPi the other one gets the message saying Tunner no longer available.

I think it relates to your other post http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...bmc-starts and the post on the XBMC forum, only one of your tuners seems to be set up properly.
