This is really, really weird.
I told npvr to record 2 shows @ 8, and 2 shows at 9.
My tuner is a HR prime with 3 tuners.

Usually, it would use one tuner per show.
This time around, it used 1 tuner for 2 shows, verified by what status was showing, AND going to the prime's status page, and looking at the tuner info. Only 1 tuner was in use!
So, I figured it was a bug, so I stopped 1 show, and then did a quick record.
It was still using 1 tuner for BOTH shows.

Looking at the files, yeah, they were both being written to, AND the data was different.
It was indeed the shows it was supposed to record.
At 9, status showed *4* shows on 1 tuner. The prime still had 1 LED on for tuner status, so again, it was using 1 tuner, but this time with 4 shows. (the end of the first two, and the start of the next two).
They were on the same channel though, so, in reality, it was still only 2 channels on 1 tuner.

Yes, all vids show all the content it was supposed to.

I am really confused on how this can happen, is there a secret way to record off the prime so it doesn't show tuner status at all ?

Right now, while this is going on, it is showing this, for tuner status:
Code:
Modulation Lock    qam256
PCR Lock    locked
Signal Strength    100% (2.3 dBmV)
Signal Quality    100% (37.6 dB)
Symbol Quality    100%
Streaming Rate    37.785 Mbps
Resource Lock    192.168.1.10
the other two tuners show:
Code:
Modulation Lock    none
PCR Lock    none
Signal Strength    none
Signal Quality    none
Symbol Quality    none
Streaming Rate    none
Resource Lock    none

from logs:
Code:
2014-01-23 19:59:00.468    [DEBUG][7]    About to start recording (882 on 27):
2014-01-23 19:59:03.312    [DEBUG][7]    About to get: ipc://DigitalHost-27/RecorderRemote

So, what magic is this ?

If the channels are on the same frequency, NPVR will automatically do a 'multi-record' on QAM channels.
Pretty cool, heh?

Huh, first I heard of that.. yeah, pretty cool!
I didn't think it was possible to have multiple channels on the same frequency...

I wonder if there is a limit, since, I just tried some more tests, and looks like I can get 3 channels on 1 tuner now...

*edit, I read http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Record_multip..._multiplex and it makes sense now...

Cool!

In some countries you can easily be recording 8+ channels on a single tuner.

lol, we get a version of this thread about twice a year. always gives me a little chuckle. the words "magic" or "voodoo" always seem to come up....

here I get NBC, ABC and FOX on one cable channel, CBS & the local CW affiliate on another. Very convenient during the dense prime-time recording extravaganza.

The problem is, npvr doesn't tell you anywhere that you can do this...
What I mean is, there should be a astrix by channels that are capable of this feature.

Right now, it is all trial & error, and normally, you use 1 tuner for each channel, so, when this comes up, people think something unknown is going on behind the scenes.

On the status dialog, it should say "Multi-record" in progress (or whatever), that will eliminate the confusion.

Let's remember that NPVR is freeware and what you get for from sub is awesome but it can't do everything for everyone.

While I'm on the subject of freeware, I think its time again for me to make a donation............care to join me and match my $25? Anyone?

Love it! Wish I could give more but I try to give often. Thanks for taking my dare and going forward with it.
