I'm using NPVR as the backend for my XBMC frontends. One frontend is on a Raspberry Pi (linux) the other is on a GBOX Midnight MX2 (Android). Last night I had a scheduled recording playing but I could not watch it while recording. I got a 'tuner not available' when trying to tune the station being recorded. I did work around it by using file browser to play the file, but this is not ideal.

Is there a way to watch currently recording programs within the native XBMC nPVR pvr addon? Can I use XNEWA to do this? If so, can someone be so kind as to point me to the working Android version for Frodo? I've tried a few different ones but never could get it to load under Android.

Where were you trying to watch it from? The Recordings screen, or the TV Guide?

I was trying from the guide. I'm pretty sure I checked recordings and didn't see it either. Also checked under 'All recordings'. Should it have been there?

You should be able to watch it from either, but because you got some no-tuner-available type message, it sounds like you were just trying to watch live tv, not a recording. (ie, did you see the normal buttons you'd get with a recording like 'cancel' etc?)

I opened the EPG and scrolled to the channel that was recording. It showed an icon stating it was currently recording (I'm using the Bello skin). I tried selecting it thinking it would start playing the recorded portion and continue recording. I instead got the no-tuner message. I did have the option to cancel the recording. Please note that this is Frodo 12.0 if it matters. I am unable to upgrade to latest Frodo as the GBOX folks have a proprietary version that allows for hardware acceleration and they have not released anything newer than 12.0

Ah sorry, I was thinking NextPVR's TV Guide - it's 5:21am here, so I'm not really awake yet.

I'm not sure how XBMC acts in this regard. You'll probably need to watch it from the recordings list rather than the TV Guide.

One of the weaknesses with this is xbmc doesn't support growing files via http. Therefore if you start watching 10 minutes in it will stop at 10 minutes, if you restart it will stop at 20 etc or even less if you skipped commercials and so-on and so-on.

Yep, XBMC isn't great at handling this. This is unrelated to the problem he was describing though.

Martin, what I did was watch it from the file browser. I did notice that it only allowed me to skip up to the point the file was at when I started watching, but it did allow for uninterrupted playback of the growing file if I did not try to skip.

So it should show up in the recordings list as soon as it starts? I could swear that it wasn't there, but I'll double check that tonight.
