Hello:

I (finally) upgraded to NPVR from GBPVR. Comcast now encrypting Basic, so I got an HD Homerun Prime with cablecard. Running on XP box.

During a long recording (NASCAR in this case), I try initiating playback form the recording menu. It shows recording in progress, and the TS file is growing in size. It does play, but the end time stays at 0 and the position time increases. The impact of this is I cannot skip forward to move past commercials etc. I can only watch in "real time", delayed by however much the show has progressed.

In GBPVR I could watch simultaneously, picking up maybe a half hour after the show begins but watching while the recording continues.

Logs attached. Comskip running in Parallel batch file, latest version of Comskip.

Any thoughts? Did not find anything on this on a brief search.

Thanks

You should be able to skip while it's recording.

I wonder if it's somehow related to comskip (or the skip points loaded from it's file). If you temporarily disable comskip, does the problem go away?

I don't think it has to do with the skip points. Comskip still running, and thus has not written either an EDL nor a txt file (actually a 0 length txt so far). Perhaps I still need something else written in the Comskip ini file (its been a long time since I set up GBPVR comskip, this time I just downloaded and used the stock, made sure edl output was on).

The timeline (if I hover mouse) shows 0:00:00 on right side, and increasing number (starting from 0:00:00) on left, almost like I am watching live TV. There are no skip lines visible, since such a short portion of the file is visible as the timeline.

Once this recording ends, I'll try without Comskip on something later tonight. But, I don't think it is comskip problem.

Sub:I am attaching a screen grab showing the timeline.

I also note that if I let it run about 5 minutes, then click anywhere on the timeline (now showing 5 minutes on left, 0 on right), it restarts at the beginning of the ts file, and the left time counter reverts to 0:00:00. The show is definitely going back to the beginning (not to current live TV). The TS file definately growing in size.

Well, its definitely not Comskip. While running, task manager did not show Comskip. I found the following in the recording log (posted above):

2014-03-09 12:28:04.063 [DEBUG][8] No C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR\Scripts\ParallelProcessing.bat

When recording is complete, it shows all 5 hours, and plays, skips about just fine. No Comskip bands show (because it never ran). The "log" file I mentioned (and the zero length edl file) were actually a different date (my bad). So all it is is the ts file.

So, that looks to put it squarely in NPVR issue. I just looked, another channel is now recording a 1-hour show, and same issue. When I clicked on this one, an error window popped up, indicated a divide by zero.

All seems fine after the recording is complete.

If you try playing a recording a couple of minutes after it starts (ie, while still pretty small on disk), does it do the same thing?

Yes, it appears to be a problem from the start Checked one about 15 minutes into recording (the one hour show mentioned above). Note: Both of these are on SD channels, not HD channels. Have not tried an HD recording just yet (HD was unreliable with Comcast with QAM, so it was safer to record SD. Imported recording settings from gbpvr).

I have a few more recordings starting in 1/2 hour, so I'll try to catch one very early on that, but I caught current within first 15 minutes.

To find the cause we might have to wait until the next release is available, so I'm in a position to give you patches etc with more logging. My current build is incompatible with the build you're running.

OK. Just upgraded, we can live with this for awhile, had a backlog of recordings due to Olympics, so no need to watch in real time right now.

Thanks for fast responses! Was hoping this was a simple/common thing.

Isn't there a patch for GetDuration 0 in XP?
