OTA EPG Question

I've been using NPVR for over a year now and love it. One thing that has been nagging me is that I have erratic results with the nightly OTA EPG update. I'll usually only see 2-3 channels populated. Yet, if I use the manual update button it consistently grabs all channels' data.

I notice when I perform the manual update that it counts down 60secs for each station -- not sure if that is relevant to my issue. I only have 8 stations mapped so I do not think this is a time-out/sleep issue since hibernate is set to 30mins. Also under 'Misc' I have checked the box to permit updates during live tv -- although at that scheduled time it should not matter.

Hoping somebody may have input.

Thanks
JG

Hitting the 'update epg' button runs the exact same function as the overnight update, so in theory you should get the same results. If you can post the logs, I'll take a look.

To be honest, I'm surprised you'd try to use the OTA EPG in the states, where there is very limited OTA EPG available. You'd probably be better off with xmltv or schedules direct.

Typically there are only a few hours of ATSC EPG data, so by the time you need it it's gone. Consider ScheduledDirect o other xmltv sources.

ATSC EPG is worthless in US. I second ScheduleDirect as a no fuss source. Couple of good xmltv sources that are free but you will have to get your hands dirty setting them up. Once you get past the setup phase you can pretty much forget about them.

Thanks for the replies. I looked for logs but none spanned a period of time when the updates failed. Think they got cycled out due to my messing with the settings and the recent upgrade. And of course last night everything worked fine! I've been eyeing schedules direct and will probably just go that route. Thanks all!

WreakedM, when I've tried using the OTA EPG I noticed it takes a long time to download the data. Perhaps your PC is going into suspend mode while it's downloading the EPG because it takes so long yet it doesn't put sufficient load on your PC to appear active. When you manually update the mouse movement would keep your PC active. You could compare the Windows log files for time the PC suspends to the time the EPG update occurs. Just a guess.

Yep this is correct - when Windows is woken to do a task it is known as unattended mode the epg update is not sufficient for windows to know it is in progress - so after the unattended sleep timeout (Default is 2 mins) it will go back to sleep.

See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...EPG-update for more info and a solution.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh
