Just want a sanity check of my understanding before I go fiddling with the EPG setup....

To Quote "- added a new 'Freesat (UK)' EPG option, which tells that app to use the existing DVB EPG functionality, but only from the Freesat EPG transponder (cutting down the time to fetch the EPG)"

Does this mean that if you select this option for a channel, that specific channel won't be scanned during OTA EPG update but it will draw its EPG from the Freesat channel that holds the full EPG (as long as that channel is selected to be scanned)?

Or have I misunderstood?

Yes, that's the theory. ie, set all your channels to the freesat epg option, and it wont scan that channel's frequency, and it'll add the freesat EPG frequency (if you didn't already have a channel on that frequency), and it'll update the EPG info for all the Freesat channels when it processes that.

"and it'll add the freesat EPG frequency (if you didn't already have a channel on that frequency)"

Does that mean it will scan the EPG frequency even if it's not defined in the channel list or does it add a channel to the channel list (if it's not already there)

Yes, that's the theory.

Someone tried it soon after the release and had problems and posted a log, but unfortunately I got busy and forgot to come back to it for a closer look.

Is NextPVR able to decode the none standard Freesat EPG format? I no longer have a DVB-S tuner but when I did DVBguide was able to decode it and one or two DVB programs also had the ability. Its not really encrypted but it needs to be "decoded".

Yep! Freesat and Freeview HD are both Hofman encoded - NPVR can do it.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I don't have Freesat - but the DVB-T EPG works great for the UK Freeview HD channels...

Yes I agree the Freeview HD channels work well but I have failed to Make the Freesat HD and non HD work and thus still rely in using XMLTV and Digiguide.
