Can't start service NPVR Recording - Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit

I just now had the exact same problem, except Win 7, 64 bit, and a re-install got the service started.
I'm having a couple of other problems, but it's good to know I was able to solve, for myself at least, one which others have been having.

How do you ...

... change the user account for the NPVR Recording Service? Make sure it is set to "SYSTEM" or that the user has access to the NPVR install folder.

I am having the same exact problem. My tuners (two Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650 with CableCards) work in Windows Media Center and even HDHomeRun, event though I have no HDHomeRun hardware). NextPVR and Kodi can apparently see the devices but neither can connect to them. Thanks.
