Archive, does it protect from auto deletion?

I have a series set to only keep 5 episodes. If I archive an episode, is it protected from the auto delete once I reach 5 episodes? I would assume so, since it is "archived", but I can not find in the wiki if this is true.

From memory, no it doesn't. You can use the 'Keep' option to protect it from auto deletion though.

What Keep option? I've never seen that in NPVR; methinks sub is recalling GB-PVR.

Yes, the Archive option does prevent auto-deletion. I specifically asked for this change when sub put the Archive function in. Archiving a recording clears the "Recurrance_OID" which turns it into a single recording not subject to auto-deletion.

In theory you can mimic the old "Keep" option by "Archiving" a recording back to the same location, except there's no way (within the UI) to tell where a recording currently resides.

It is not very intuitive, but following the wiki, I made a new folder in my Recordings directories setting. Then I had an archive option within NPVR. I archived the recording and it moved it into the other directory. Inside NPVR, I still get the option for Archiving the recording even though it is already archived. I thought it might have switched to "UnArchive".

I do remember a keep option back in GPVR, but as you stated there is no 'Keep' option that I can find in NPVR.

No, because NPVR doesn't keep track of where a recording originated. You can set recordings to be written directly to any of your recording directories, so simply not being in the default location isn't sufficient to tell if the recording has already been archived. Plus even after you move a recording once, you might choose to move it somewhere else later; "UnArchive" would imply it would move it back to the original location, which might not even exist any more.

Seems more like a move this file function than an Archive function then. But I guess if it protects it from auto delete then an argument can be made that it is indeed an Archive function. In SageTV, one would archive the recording. It didn't even have to move from the recording directory. It was just protected from deletion of any kind until you 'unarchived' it.

Funny, that was roughly my exact argument to sub when he first implemented the feature but it didn't protect the recording from auto-delete. I argued that if it didn't protect it from auto-deletion, then the feature was mis-named and had little use to me. That's surely why he didn't remember in his first response to you that it does do that, as he didn't initially design it that way.

I just don't use this feature myself, and couldn't remember the exact details.
