Why do do you think HD-Homerun Dual can scan and find the digital channels so easily?
Why can't NVPR use the same programming? Is it proprietary?

- Scanning ATSC doesn't work for me in NPVR mode so I think Other is best
- XP SP3 does needs the MP dvb-hotfix but usually not for scanning. It try it.

No if you pick mpeg2 and ffdshow during install the pack does it for you.

Martin

Thanks for the info on dvb hotfix. I thought it was installed with NVPR in Xp. I still have it on my hard drive, I will give it a go.

LAV should be fine. If you had it set to that then it sounds like the firewall issue. Do a scan and then zip and post your entire logs folder.

In a sense, they both use the same programming. The BDA interface that NextPVR uses is just a driver wrapper (supplied by SiliconDust) for the interface they are using in HDHomeRun Config. One application may work and another not (both using the same interface) due to firewall permissions.

They add firewall exceptions for their own software as part of their installer. They don't add the firewall exceptions for 3rd party programs like NextPVR - you need to add them yourself.

NextPVR is just doing the standard ATSC/QAM scanning, so should have no problems finding your channels. As mentioned, firewall and HDHomeRun application setting can often get in the way for HDHR users - this stuff is external to NextPVR though, and something you need to take care of yourself.

Hundreds of other people are successfully using these devices and there is no reason it wont work for you too.

Installing DVBfix was mentioned earlier. Its only required in XP if multiple tuners are being used and it stops a crash as soon as a second tuner comes into use. However some people including me found that the "Fix" causes channel scans to fail or at least to be only partial. I had to uninstall the fix before a scan then reinstall again afterwards but not everyone had this problem.

you should post an npvr.log showing a scan so we can check for the signs of typical problems.

OP, when you ran HDHomeRunSetup, what was the main application set to ?
Also, which firmware are you using for the Prime, are you using release: 20140604 ?

Anyway, once you get quickTV working, the next step is to get NPVR working correctly, and, that is, once the devices are found, it should show them, then, select one of the tuners, and hit device setup, and then scan, and it should instantly "find" all the stations that the HDHomeRunSetup program found.

If you still aren't showing any stations found at that point, then, you can bet it IS a firewall (or anti-virus) that is blocking the request.
