Oh okay. The PCTV stuff all prompted the Firewall to ask if it should allow connections through. No matter. Have added NPVR as an allowable application but nothing has changed. NPVR also crawls along on my laptop. Takes ages to trigger a right click popup from the System Tray icon and then it reports NPVR not responding and some minutes latter the main menu appears.

I also have an entry in the Security tab for the properties of the share to NPVR folder on the server for "Creator Owner". I can't change the settings to allow full access, is this a problem? jpg attached.

This is also a sign that it's not managing to connect.

Can you post a screenshot of your Settings->Devices screen?

Maybe try the ip address in the "Server Name" field. If that doesn't help, then it's even more sounding like firewall somewhere getting in the way of communication.

Have had some minor success since my last post. Have added Nrecord.exe to the firewalls on both the Server and my laptop client and now NPVR on my laptop is far more responsive. I can now get audio when selecting the recording on the server share from the client copy of NPVR, but not video. Still a firewall issue to resolve do you think?

On the client I'm still getting Initiating device scan though???

No, it wont be firewall anymore. It sounds like you've now corrected the firewall issue.

If you're getting audio, but no video, then it'll likely just come down to the video decoder you're trying to use.

I'm not sure why that message isn't going away, but it doesn't sound like it causing you any problems, so just ignore it.

The decoders are whatever NPVR has selected on install. Should I be randomly trying whatever appears in the drop downs?

[edit]Yup that worked :-)

Selected MPEG2 Video to be PVTC Systems MPEG2 decoder
and...
H.264 Video ffdshow DXVA Video Decoder

Now get audio and sound!!!

NextPVR doesn't install any decoders (since this would cost $$$ to do legally). It's up to you to select your own decoder from those you have available.

The decoders on your client system are the ones that come with Windows plus the decoders that have been installed by the various softwares that you have installed (For example, the software that came with your tuner is likely to have installed decoders). You may find that it is worth experimenting with the various options on the client to get the best possible picture (and audio).
