NextPVR showing me IPTV device - I have HDHR

Hi all,

I recently bought a HDHR to use OTA. I used the HDHR software, it's installed, it tuned and picks up 20+ channels. I set up NextPVR in hope to record. Once I install and launch it, the only device showing is IPTV.

From reading, I understood that the tuner would show up in the list. Tried everything. Restarted services, removed NPVR and reinstalled it. First I had firewall totally of then I added exceptions.

I'm not a noob with this sort of stuff, I have two XBMC boxes and was hoping to use them so I can watch tv too, but this is painful.

Really, I spent $90 on the HDHR and not I'm really questioning if that was wise...

Any ideas would certainly help, I've wasted about 4 hours searching on the forum here as well as on the net for a walk through for HDHR but nothing...

Logs files showing you opening the device would help find some problems eg. Server OS's require extra steps to get BDA drivers installed. I use an HDHR for OTA LiveTV via XBMC/NextPVR in Canada at it works fine.

It sounds like you don't have the SiliconDust HDHR drivers installed.

Really, I'm not so dumb. It's an IP device, why would I think the box that will be running the backend would need the HDHR software loaded. Ok, it's showing the two tuners now (HDHR4-2US is what I got), and still the IPTV (even though I deleted it, it comes back - I just disabled it).

I tried the scan, and it keeps no stations after the scan end, even though it picks up 20+ through the HDHR software that work great.
I will have to do more reading as to the next steps.

I someone has done a walkthrough for this setup, would appreciate being pointed to it.

Kudo to sub for understanding that when you wrote the HDHR software works you meant on a different PC. I need to configure "Other ATSC/QAM" in the HDHR setup instead of NextPVR to scan.

My bad, I wasn't specific. I have an old tower running win7 repurposed as a NAS; sits under a desk in a room. So I use that for the media for my XBMC stuff. I had run the HDHR software off my laptop - hence the issues.

I did read about setting it for ATSC/QAM instead of using it for NextPVR as people were having issues. The HDHR software scans and keeps a lot of channels, which then I can watch via the HDHR quickTV

But when I scan channels through the NPVR Scan interface, it goes through but doesn't keep anything; this is what I mean... I'll give it a go setting it up the HDHR for NextPVR and see if I get better results.

Its not clear what you mean. Did the NextPVR scan find your channels? Did you hit ok to save them, and see them listed in your tv guide?

If it's not finding any channels, then the most likely reason is the firewall software on your software is getting in the way, and you need to add firewall exceptions for NextPVR.exe, NRecord.exe and NDigitalHost.exe.

Ok; the HDHR software also has a "setup" program where you can scan channels. It was working there but not in NPVR. The problem was that with the HDHR setup, I had it set for Other: ATSC/QAM as advised in the docs for NPVR, and above. However, NPVR didn't recognize the unit properly, it recognizes it as for cable (HDHR Prime - see picture attached).

I went back and in the HDHR setup I set it for NextPVR and then ran the Settings in NPVR again, and this time it came up with the correct tuners, two ATSC and two QAM (I disabled both QAM since I'm only using it for OTA).

Then, I could finally scan stations which they stayed when I saved them.

Incidentally when I upped this picture, a bunch of code barfed up... looks like it worked though.

So now, in NPVR I go to guide, it shows all the station, I just gotta figure out the way to create the file to "make everything pretty"!

Perfect timing here - I had one HDHR installed already, and added a second to the system. I use it for ATSC only also. I didn't realize (or forgot) that I needed to run the setup for the HDHR in HD Homerun Setup before it would show properly. Thanks!

I guess I put the XMLid in each of the channel properties in NPVR settings... Is there a how to guide at this step?

Right now, I can to to TV Guide (in NPVR) but it just shows a grid w/o any info likely because it's missing what to get from XML, etc?
