Newbie moving from BTV

Firstly the HD-PVR isn't in yet, the stick is and it's OTA/QAM.

If I want to fake one of those being the HD-PVR and hit import, it wants an xml file, which I do not have, unless this another step I need to do every time I wish to update the guide - seems like a lot of trouble all around.

Its a different process for setting up a digital tuner vs a HDPVR/Analog type of tuner. For testing this you'd ideally want to connect the HD-PVR to the test PC briefly, to get the device added on the Settings->Devices screen. You can then put it back in your other system.

To add in your you channel you basically go to the Settings->Devices screen, double click the HD-PVR device, click 'Import', select Schedules Direct (instead of XMLTV). ie, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvEiTeo07Bs

Regarding the blaster - you can use whatever executable you need to for your hardware or setup. I'm sure you'll find a serial executable blaster already exists that allows you to change channels in the same way you currently do.

The problem is: he hasn't ever connected the hd-pvr to this system, so it doesn't show up in NextPVR's setup. If he can temporarily just connect the HD-PVR to the system (he shouldn't need any channel changer or actual HDMI/component input connected to it), then I believe he'd be able to do the setup he desires.

Ok, we've established that the EASY way to do this would be to let it find all the proper H/W and go from there. BUT for the time being, why can I not let the program assume the Hauppauge USB TV Stick is the HD-PVR and click on one of the channels and import the DTV Lineup?

Whether we can or can't, I'm stuck on getting the lineup in to NPVR. I've already assigned S/D and picked the Guide I set up but nothing happens. I've tried to import it, but I'm at a loss as to how to dl it as an xml file that NPVR likes.

NextPVR recognises two kinds of hardware 1) tuner and 2) not a tuner.

For a tuner ... The steps are 1) Scan for channels ... for a terrestrial service this would scan each frequency used to broadcast TV and find each channel that is broadcast on that frequency. 2) Get EPG data for each channel. I don't use Schedules Direct and I am a bit uncertain of this bit. The description at ... http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...eWithSDEPG ... should do the job. The key here is that the channel names used by the broadcaster may not be any exact match for the channel names used by the EPG source. You may need to map the EPG channel name to a broadcast channel name. NextPVR does the best that it can to do the matching for you but it's only software and may need help from a human.

For a not a tuner ... there is no scanning because there is no tuner to scan with so the list of channels must come from elsewhere. The list of channels comes from an EPG source such as Schedules Direct. It appears that you have seen the video that shows how to use a channel list from Schedules Direct to populate the channel list for a not a tuner. After you have added the channels to the not a tuner, you will need to specify the hardware and software magic that NextPVR will use to drive the device that will do the actual tuning ... typically that's a set top box driven by an IR blaster.

You can specify that NextPVR should automatically download the EPG data every day by specifying a time at Settings --> Misc 2

Edit: the shortest route to success might be to keep it simple ... trying to configure a tuner to be a not a tuner might not be the best way to start using a new piece of software.

Depending on which Hauppauge USB stick you've got, if it has analog support, and you have the Hauppauge WinTV 7 or 8 software installed, then it'll show you an analog device on the Settings->Devices screen. This is more similar to the HDPVR than the digital tuner. Double clicking an analog device, you'll find it also has an 'Import' button, which will allow you to add your Schedules Direct channels, in a very similiar way to the video I showed earlier for the HDPVR.

This for reimporting channels backed up using the 'Export Channels' button. It's not a way for you to add your Schedules Direct channels. Been looking at this for a few days now ( and fighting other IT crap) and it finally dawned on me that the devices isn't seeing the Composite/S-Video input of the stick so I could use THAT to look at the guide.

Guess I'll have to install on the HTPC and put BTV a sleep for a while and see what we, err, I have.

Don't know if I should start another thread for this but, installed it in/on the HTPC, imported the guide (haven't got the blaster connected yet), it records, has a guide plays live TV etc., BUT when in either windowed or fullscreen, when I move my mouse around within the window the tip of the mouse has a black circle attached to it and acts as an eraser. Move it enough and the entire window is black.

Ideas?

Also anyone using an ATI remote wonder with this?
