OK confessed newbie here. I'm setting this up for a friend and as a seasoned technologist - I don't have any experience with this kind of configuration.
Device lists as Hauppauge WinTV 885 BD Tuner/Demod within NextPVR. The label on the card shows WinTV-HVR-1250 ATSC/QAM/NTSC.
I have it installed, hooked it up to a cheesy antenna (just to get something coming in) and scanned. I got 6 ATSC channels (18.1-18.6).
When I select any of the channels the application pauses and then I get the message "Missing audio? You don't have a AC3 decoder selected. you can fix this on the Settings->Decoders screen." (copied exactly as displayed including misspelled "don't"). I have hooked this antenna up to a TV, done the channel scan and was able to watch all of the channels on the TV. So I know that the data source is valid and functioning...
Under the Decoders configuration | Audio Decoders - the AC2Audio is set for Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder. Not sure this is valid - but it's the only option available in the dropdown box (except for disabled which didn't seem like the correct option).
I have downloaded and installed VLC just because I know it comes with a lot of different codecs and hoped that one might 'show up' in NextPVR... it didn't happen.
Do I need a specific decoder? if so - where can I get it? Do I have the configuration set up incorrectly?
I've come to this point with NextPVR after spending a lot of hours trying to get MythTV on Linux to work. Being a 'Windows' guy - this just made more sense to me - mostly.
Any help is always appreciated!
Thanks everyone...
Bill
