Not having much luck getting my Hauppauge DCR-2650 system to run. I should say I'm setting these shows manually to run every day at the same times. Easy enough, right?

First I had recordings stop altogether using NextPVR. Switched over to Hauppauge's WinTV8 scheduler. That ran OK for a day and then stopped working. Got 0 bytes for each manually set recording. Then, last evening it starting recording two shows on different channels all by itself that I did not even program in.

Apparently they were now running under Windows Media Center... which I never tried to use. Only had that open long enough for the cable guy to install the M-cards weeks ago. Do these programs use similar points for storing the recording information? The old way was to store under Windows "Tasks" but I see nothing there.

I need to go back to the start but I have some questions I hope someone can answer.

What is the minimal amount of "stuff" I need to have installed to get NextPVR to work with the DCR-2650 box?

I was told I need the Silicon Dust HomeRun PRIME program installed since they apparently made this box for Hauppauge... but...

Do I need to have Windows Media Center running?

Is it better to set up one of these channel schedules (.xml) and program the recordings that way. Is the manual method making things more difficult for NextPVR?

If you're having problems recording, your best bet is to post your logs covering the time of a problem recording. If you catch it doing one of these zero byte recordings, you might want to run up the HDHomeRun Config GUI to see what it says says the tuner is doing. My guess is either the tuner is in use by some other software at the time so ignoring requests from NextPVR, or the channel is encrypted at that time so the device is not delivering any data to NextPVR.

You just need the HDHomeRun software it installed (so that it has hdhomerun_config.exe installed)

Nope.

I'm not sure what you're talking about

No, it's not more difficult for NextPVR. At the end of the day, they're all just recordings on a certain channel, that start at a specific time, and end at a specific time.

The screen there is blank. No data of any kind. Also says "no tuners" under their set up screen. Perhaps it does not work with the 2650.

I'm trying to set this up again but I've got to tell you having to set the start/stop time is painful using the advance arrows. There is no way to set the time by typing it in?

Is there a format for the schedule... like the one it saves... that I can edit manually and do it that way.

Ah, I forgot about that - you're correct, the SiliconDust software isn't show the 2650.

You might be able to see the same info on the webpages served from the 2650.

Just type the time. ie 1824 for 18:24 (6:24pm), or 0830 for 8:30

Why aren't you using the EPG guide to schedule your recordings?
It doesn't get much easier than that.

I run 3 DCR-2650's and record as many as 15 shows a night.
I can't imagine having to manually schedule all that.

Always have done this manually. I set up a schedule once and let it run for months. Not adding shows daily.
Always worked in the past on my other analog system but right now having issues that are causing things to not work correctly.

I know this is not the place to ask... but is there a way to shut down or disable Windows Media Center so it is not conflicting with anything?

Yes, you can see that from the 2650's web pages. You just need to determine which IP address the 2650 is using and then use a web browser to go to that address.

You don't have to add shows daily with an EPG guide either once they are setup as record daily/weekly/whatever they just happen, but having a guide does also open up other options & makes it into a proper PVR.
