Version 3.3.8 was solid but, after updating to 3.4.8, I am now having problems recording some SD channels. The HD channels seem to record O.K.

I completely replaced my npvr.db3 with an empty copy, rebooted, and rebuilt my device and channels configuration.

I have attached two sets of logs - one with a good record, and one with a bad record. These were created after the rebuild.

Also, I noticed that the ndigitalhost.log seems to be filling up with a lot of "No additional EPG events available" messages.

Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I will go back to 3.3.8.

Regards,
Donald

In what way is it failing? Do you end up a zero byte file? If so, can you watch live tv on that channel?

Sometimes it will record a valid .ts file, and sometimes not. I get a file that is less than 1 megabyte. Yes, I can watch live TV on the channel.

Can you supply one of these files for me to look at?

Yes, attached.

P.S. I just started another recording on an SD channel and it is recording normally.

I think I'm going to need you to collect some more details.

Might need you to create a c:\temp directory, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Software\NPVR\LogFileWriter=1 (DWORD), then reproduce one of these failed recordings, and supply the c:\temp\file-writer.txt file, so I can check what's happening.

Thanks for your help.

My C:\ drive is an SSD, and I would prefer to log somewhere else. Would that be possible?

Also, the path on my machine is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\NPVR, and the above key does not currently exist. Is this correct?

Sorry, it's not possible with these low level logs. They always go to c:\temp

Sorry - yes, that is the path. The value doesn't exist by default. Just create it.

I recreated the problem, but there is nothing in the C:\Temp directory.

I have attached my registry entry to see if I made the update correctly.

Also, does NPVR need special permissions to write on the C:\ drive?

The registry setting looks correct. Did you try restarting the recording service? It might be required for it to pickup this change.

No, you shouldn't need any special permissions on c:\temp. It'd usually be created writable by everyone.
